Well hello to you, EastEnders fans! Bosses of the BBC soap have a special Christmas gift for you – Kat and Alfie Moon are heading back to Albert Square for the festive period.

The couple left Walford to start a new life in Spain earlier this year after winning a lovely lump of cash on the lottery.

The pair will be heading back to the East End of London for December to see Stacey Slater, played by Lacey Turner, but, of course, their visit will not be without drama (well, it IS *‘Enders *- we wouldn’t expect anything less).

But what craziness could possibly happen when they visit E20? Does Kat have another son she doesn’t even know exists? Erm... right... Has Alfie told Kat the truth about his brain tumour?

Whatever happens, it will set the scene for the characters’ new BBC One drama which will be set in Ireland.

On Kat and Alfie’s return, producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins says: “Christmas in Walford is always the perfect time for uncomfortable family reunions – and Kat and Alfie’s brief return will lead tears, laughter... and a mountain of secrets being unearthed for the Slater family.

“As Kat and Alfie hold on to each other and their marriage, the discovery that Kat has a secret son will lead to seismic waves through the Slaters – and ultimately lead to the Moons realising that the answers to so many questions lie across the sea in Ireland.”

Speaking of his return, actor Shane Richie, who plays Alfie, says: “I’m really excited to be heading back to EastEnders with Jessie [Wallace] this Christmas.

“It’s wonderful to be back in Walford and to be playing out several big twists to Kat and Alfie’s story that will set the scene for their new life in Ireland.”

Jessie, who plays Kat, added: “I can’t wait to start filming these episodes. The drama that Kat and Alfie have in store when they return to Walford is huge and, although secrets will be revealed, more questions will be raised leading them to head off to Ireland in search of answers.”

Naww! It sounds like Christmas and New Year is going to be as miserable as ever for the locals of Walford.
