The highly anticipated sequel of the documentary series, Making a Murderer, is set to return to Netflix. The first season was a mega success and got EVERYONE talking about the legal system.
(PREPARE FOR ALL VIEWERS TO BECOME DETECTIVES ALL OVER AGAIN…)
So let us explain everything you can expect to see in season 2!
What is Making a Murderer about?
If you are one of the few that people that haven’t been able to get hooked on the Netflix show, they you’ll probably have no idea what is going on! Basically, Making a Murderer looks at the cases of Steven Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, who were convicted of killing Teresa Halbach in 2005.
Season 1 made it very clear that the justice system had failed these convicted murderers and the new season is expected to follow the legal teams’ fight for freedom and ultimate goal to expose the real truth.
After the unexpected success of season 1, those involved in the case have regularly appeared in the media- especially the main prosecutor, Ken Kratz, who has even gone to the lengths of writing a book about the trial.
Who we can expect to see in season 2 of Making a Murderer?
A lot has happened for both Avery and Dassey since the show first aired. Dassey’s conviction has been overturned and there is the prospect of Avery filing for another appeal very soon, so it comes as no shock that a second season is in the pipeline.
Joining the investigation is successful appeal lawyer, Kathleen Zellner. Zellner has recently become Avery’s new defence attorney, and will lead his latest appeal. She has taken on Avery’s case and has even retitled her Twitter bio to "Unmaking 'Murderers'". (Talk about being dedicated to your clients!)
Brendan Dassey update
Last summer, it was announced that a US judge ordered the release of Brendan Dassey. His murder conviction was finally overturned as the Judge came to the conclusion that investigators had purposely tricked and confused Brendan into confessing his involvement in Teresa Halbach’s murder.
Steven Avery update
The filmmakers of the show have revealed that they have already interviewed Avery and have recorded footage to put in the new season of the show. However, as it is still an open case (AND REAL LIFE!) things change all the time and the story continues!
Secret evidence!
When the Netflix series received widespread attention, the main prosecutor, Kratz, started speaking to media outlets about key pieces of evidence that were left out of the show. Kratz strongly argues about DNA evidence from the hood of Halbach’s car that wasn’t included in the show. But, we must remember, not ALL the evidence can fit into a TV show, can it?
Perhaps we can expect to see more evidence revealed in season 2!
Who created Making a Murderer?
Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi are the creators and directors of the show and work with Netflix.
Netflix said to The Express: "This next chapter will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as, the emotional toll the process takes on all involved."
When can we watch season 2 of Making a Murderer?
Unfortunately, no official dates have been announced to tell us when the new season will air. But, we are expecting to see it in 2017!
For now, all we can do is await the second season and keep our eyes peeled for any new information on this real-life story!
