No, he won’t be treating your bad back or looking at that weird rash on your leg, but he will be able to protect you from threatening aliens. Last week, the BBC announced that Ncuti Gatwa would be taking on the role of the Doctor in Doctor Who, following Jodie Whittaker’s departure after four years.

Before we get into the Doctor Who news you need to see Ncuti's blonde hair transformation because he looks completely different from his usual Sex Education role as Eric.

Posting a fit topless pic, he wrote on the 'gram, "New hair, who dis 👀".

Lots of his followers rushed to comment with one person writing, "It's the bawdy and hair😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥🔥".

Someone else said, "Oh so you want us all to focus on your HAIR".

A third added, "I wasn't looking at the hair 👀👅".

Obsessed.

Anyways, back to the Doctor Who news...

Walking the red carpet at the BAFTAs last week – looking fabulous, might we add – with returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, 29-year-old Ncuti beamed with joy when discussing the news.

Admitting he’d kept it secret since February, Ncuti said taking on the role was “a true honour".

"This role is an institution,' he went on. "It’s iconic. It means a lot to so many people, including myself. I feel grateful to have had the baton handed over. I’m going to try and do my best.”

Russell revealed that Ncuti’s audition was the last they’d seen, admitting they already had an actor in mind before Ncuti came into the room and gave a “blazing audition”.

The Rwandan-born actor is best known for his role as Eric in Sex Education , but prior to landing that in 2018, he had a tough few years trying to make it, and had to couch-surf as he juggled temping with auditions. Happily, his success in Sex Education has seen him receive several BAFTA nominations, as well as catapulting him into the showbiz spotlight.

Born during the civil war in Rwanda, Ncuti and his family moved to Scotland in 1994 – an experience the actor has spoken about candidly. “I definitely felt growing up that I wasn’t seen as the same as anyone around me because no-one around me looked like me,” he’ said, adding he felt like the “only black person in the world”.

Speaking in the 2019 BBC docu Black And Scottish, Ncuti admitted that the racial abuse he experienced at school in Dunfermline made him stronger.

“It was really a good lesson to me about the difference between hate and ignorance. Obviously, their behaviour was inexcusable. But at the same time, I was the first Black person that they probably saw in real life.”

He added that it was his mother who truly inspired him to toughen up. “I grew up watching her move to this country with three kids on her back. She couldn’t speak the language, didn’t know the culture, no money, no nothing – and she raised all three of us. As cheesy as it sounds, I’ve been watching strength from a young age. My mum has dealt with so much sh--t.”

After the announcement that Ncuti would become the fourteenth doctor, his father, journalist Tharcisse Gatwa, said that the whole family were “very proud”, adding, “We have congratulated him, we are just so pleased.”
