Olly Murs has suggested he won’t be returning to host The X Factor next year, less than a week after making an embarrassing gaffe which saw him reveal Monica Michael had been given the axe before he’d even been told the results.
Former show contestant Olly and his co-host Caroline Flack have struggled to win over the public after Dermot O’Leary left as presenter at the end of last series.
But a return to the show next year is not yet looking likely for Olly who wants to concentrate on his pop career.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’d like to do next year. But I’ll have to look at my music.
“I’m writing a new album and when I make these decisions I’ve always got to look at my music.”
Pop star Olly made a big mistake during last Sunday’s results show when the judges sent the elimination to deadlock and he announced Monica Michael was leaving before he and Caroline were given an envelope containing the results of the public vote.
It turned out Monica did come bottom with the public and the blunder meant many viewers called for him to be axed from the series.
Olly said: “It was a difficult weekend. It was a really awkward moment for me because I made a stupid mistake.
“It really was a silly mistake at a crucial point of X Factor.
“I hold my hands up – I know I let myself down.”
And while co-host Caroline offered some supportive words, saying: “No one wants to see a sad Olly,” he admits the pair has no clue if they will be asked back for the next series.
He said: “We’ll have to wait and see if we’re asked to come back.”
