Real-life EastEnders FIRE breaks out on set hours after live show finishes

A REAL-LIFE fire broke out on the set of EastEnders late on Tuesday night, just hours after a live scene from one of the 30th anniversary live episode finished.

Dr Legg's old surgery on the Albert Square set was set ablaze by a stray firework. Firefighters - real ones, not just hunky guys pretending - found the first floor and roof aflame when they arrived at BBC's Elstree Studios.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service's spokesperson explained that two crews from Potters Bar and Borehamwood, which are close to the 'Enders, erm, ends, were called to tackle the fire.

They said: "Crews from Borehamwood and Potters Bar were called to the BBC Elstree Studios shortly after 11pm to tackle a fire that had taken hold in the first floor and roof space of a building on Albert Square."

However, the spokesperson explained the building was just a facade, rather than the actual set, where scenes in the doctor's surgery would be filmed.

"The damage was to the inside and roof. It was quite badly damaged, but we put it out before it spread any further."

The area commander - which sounds way cooler than our job title - said that overall there was no serious damage and the live shows won't be affected.

We're glad no one was hurt, but it would've been cool to see the buildings in the background of the live episodes scorched, or Ian Beale holding his nose to cover the smell of burnt prop carpets that probably haven't been changed for thirty years.
