Congratulations to Sam Smith after he won the Best Original Song award at last night’s Oscars.

The 23 year old won the gong for his song, Writing's On The Wall, from James Bond film, Spectre.

Sam beat Lady Gaga's Till It Happens To You and The Weeknd's 50 Shades track Earned It.

During his acceptance speech, an emotional Sam said: "I actually can't breathe right now. To all the nominees, you're incredibly, Gaga, you're incredible."

He quoted a recent Ian McKellen interview, saying: "I read an article that said no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar, and if this is the case, and even if it's not, I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world.

"I stand here tonight as a proud gay man and I hope we can all stand together as equals one day."

Turns out Sam’s not the first openly gay star to win after all – fellow musician Elton John won Best Original Song for The Lion King's Can You Feel The Love Tonight in 1995.

Here are the best-dressed stars from last night’s Oscars.
