Not all of Simon Cowell’s X Factor decisions have been popular this year with many viewers claiming the show has lost its sparkle.
And the latest decision made by the music mogul is sure to divide opinion – he’s reportedly already decided on the winner’s single.
Record company boss Simon is said to have chosen Bob Dylan’s 1974 tune Forever Young to be released later this year by the champion act of this series.
A source told The Sun: “Simon is aware that the song choice will split opinion. Some will argue he is introducing Bob and the song itself to a new, younger audience. But arguably the majority will feel the opposite.
“Bob stands for everything that The X Factor does not, which means hearing the track will be tough for many musos to go through.”
The series winners have often released covers of other songs as their first singles.
James Arthur covered Shontelle’s 2010 track Impossible after he won in 2012 and Joe McElderry recorded Myley Cyrus’ 2009 song The Climb after he came out on top that year.
And it seems criticism from the music buying public may not be the only negative comments the show is receiving – Nicole Scherzinger has hit out at the talent contest, saying it’s not been as good since she left as a judge in 2013.
She told Express.co.uk: “Everybody knows X Factor is the biggest thing in this country... or it was.
“I always said my panel was so strong. I miss my fellow judges.”
