Sam Simon, co-creator of The Simpsons has sadly died at the age of fifty-nine after losing his battle with cancer.
The show's executive producer, Al Jean tweeted to confirm the news that Sam had died on Sunday (March 8).
He tweeted: ".@thesimpsons #everysimpsonsever Just heard terrible news of death of @simonsam. A great man; I owe him everything."
Sam Simon, who won nine Emmy awards during his career, revealed he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2012, and filmed a documentary about his final few months of life
Simon worked on The Simpsons until 1993, however he continued to work on the show as an executive producer. His work also includes shows such as Taxi, Cheers, The Tracey Ullman Show and The Drew Carey Show.
He also announced last year that he'd leaving $100 million to various charities, including some working for animals rights, which Sam had been a strong campaigner for.
