A lot has happened in 2015. A Ghostbusters spin-off was confirmed, the Spice Girls have HEAVILY hinted that they're going to get back together and now, perhaps most excitingly of all, after 27 seasons, Mr. Smithers is set to address his sexuality in a two-episode special in the next season of The Simpsons.

Mr. Smither's unrequited love for Mr. Burns has been a long-running joke for the show, a 25 year running joke to be exact.

Speaking to *TV Line, *the show's creator Al Jean said: “In Springfield now, most people know he’s gay, but obviously Burns doesn’t.

“We deal with that in two episodes. We actually do a lot with Smithers this year; he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.”

Smithers has had sexy dreams about the frail millionaire, imagined him popping out of a birthday cake naked and set his computer to say in Burns' voice "you are turning me on, Mr. Smithers".

Mmmmmmm

The character had taken a break from the show, after voice actor Harry Shearer fell out with the company over contract disputes. However, they seem to have sorted things out now, which is probably for the best, as he voices Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, Kent Brockman and Doctor Hibbert.

Sounds like they're get their money's worth out of him!

The Simpsons season 27 arrives on 27 September, 2015.
