It fast became one of most popular TV shows in recent years, and it propelled its child stars into the heights of fame, but it's now been confirmed that we won't be seeing another season of Stranger Things until NEXT YEAR! Although a 2019 air date had been rumoured for a while, many fans were hoping the rumours would be wrong, because it was back in October 2017 when we were last treated to a new season of Stranger Things.

Set in October 1984, Stranger Things 2 followed Will after he had finally been rescued from the Upside Down, however there were many unknown details surrounding his disappearance. Check out our gallery of scenes from Stranger Things Season 2.

As reported by Vanity Fair, Netflix Vice President of Original Content, Cindy Holland, confirmed that Stranger Things would be looking at a Summer 2019 release date. She explained the reasons behind the long wait for Stranger Things season 3 during the press tour.

She revealed, "It’s a hand-crafted show." Going on to explain how the creators and director, "have worked really hard, and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so, they really want to take the time to get it right. I think it’s gonna be a fantastic season; it’s gonna be worth the wait."

Filming for the new season has already started back in April, Millie Bobby Brown, who stars as Eleven in the hit TV show, confirmed they had started filming when she posted a photo to Instagram. The young actress posted a black and white photo of herself with the show's director Shawn Levy, captioned 'and so it begins #strangerthingsseason3'.

She later revealed some more details about the upcoming season of Stranger Things telling Variety, "It's a beautiful storyline for Eleven this season. It's really a coming of age for her and understanding what being a normal teenage girl is."

The 14-year-old actress then added, "I found another side of my acting that I didn't know about."

Going on to explain how she found a different technique for acting saying, "I found techniques on how to cry and how to get angry, and I learned so much from Eleven, from those episodes of being isolated, that when I'm back in season three, things happen – stranger things happen. I'm just saying I use that style of acting now and my method of acting for season three."

Earlier this month, Millie's co-star Noah Schapp also revealed a sad spoiler ahead of season 3 saying that the Byers’s family dog, Chester, has died, “I think he died, didn’t he?" Noah said, "He did. You can tell, I guess. Like, in this season, there’s a grave for him that you see.”

Despite it now being confirmed that the new season of Stranger Things isn't going to be released until next year, there are still some Stranger Things merchandise due for release including a series of books, including a behind-the-scenes companion and a hardcover gift book for younger readers in the autumn, whilst early next year will get to see a prequel novel. Sounds interesting!
