Jay McGuiness and his twinkle toes may have trotted their way to victory on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night but it wasn’t just hard work and plenty of practice that helped the star triumph.
Former The Wanted singer Jay has revealed he had a helping hand in coming out on top on the BBC show at the weekend – whisky.
The boyband star and his professional dance partner Aliona Vilani took home the glitterball prize but he felt a little lighter on his feet after he was given a drink backstage.
Appearing on Lorraine this morning, he said: “A lovely TV executive called Louise gifted us some whisky so I was a little bit warm during that. A wee nip.”
Jay admitted he didn’t feel particularly different after finishing his last dance but his feelings soon changed once he was announced as the winner.
He said: “I just really thought that was that and then when we won it was the most unbelievable feeling.”
After recently admitting he doesn’t know what his plans are for after the Strictly tour, Jay can’t wait to have some time off to watch his appearance on the show back.
And he was quick to put any rumours of a romance between him and his dance partner Aliona to bed, saying: “I think when you dance with someone you have to create romance and people want to see that.
“No matter what I say people will say what they want. We’re just friends. Me, her and her husband and my family, we just became a big family.
“Honestly you spend that much time together you speak about everything. No matter what happens you get a best friend.”
