Strictly Come Dancing beats The X Factor ratings by 2 million!

According to overnight ratings this is the biggest gap between the BBC and ITV show.

Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor only overlapped by 20 minutes last night but BBC’s Strictly attracted an average of 9.4million viewers while ITV’s X Factor brought in 7.4million.

The viewing figures do not include catch-up services but both shows dominated viewing in their time slots.

Strictly saw 42.8% of the viewing public tuning in to the tenth series of the dance show while 32.4% of TV viewers watched X Factor's long-running talent show.

X Factor ratings have dipped since its opening episode at the end of August, which drew an average of 8.9 million.

The launch show saw the return of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell to the judging panel, and the debut of former Spice Girl and judge Mel B with original judge, Louis Walsh.

On the other hand Strictly's launch show drew an average of 8.4m viewers, dipping to 8.1m for the first competitive show on 27 September. It is the first year the show has not been fronted by Sir Bruce Forsyth.
