The Great British Bake Off fans need not worry, we won't have to wait too long until the next series is on our TVs! The date for the eagerly-awaited return of the popular baking show has now been confirmed by Channel 4 as being later this month! Taking to Twitter, Channel 4 said, 'The Great British Bake Off. #GBBO returns Tuesday 28th Aug 8pm', accompanied by a short video.

This will be the second series of the show to appear on Channel 4, after the final episode aired on the BBC in 2016. The first series on Channel 4 saw new hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig, and new judge Prue Leith, alongside returning judge Paul Hollywood, take the show to a successful first series, with track cyclist Sophie Faldo winning the show.

This time around, the same judges and hosts will return, as teased in the trailer for the new series released earlier this month.

Last year's winner Sophie, was slightly overshadowed when Prue Leith announced the winner of the show hours before it aired on TV! Prue got a little bit ahead of herself and tweeted the words, 'No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo Sophie'. After realising her mistake, Prue's tweet was swiftly deleted, and she later explained the gaffe happened because she was on a different time zone during a holiday to Bhutan.

Earlier this year, Prue revealed the measures she was going to this year to make sure the same mistake DOESN'T happen again. Speaking to the Daily Star, Prue said, "The Bake Off public relations team now control all my tweets. My toyboy [John who is seven years younger] asked them to carry on the arrangement for filming. It's probably for the best."

Although the new series due to start later this month is the second series of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4, a celebrity version of the show was aired earlier this year and it included quite an impressive line-up.
