The Voice has made the move over to ITV and the brand spanking new series is starting tonight.
WOOOOO.
Oh, how we’ve missed those spinny chairs! We’ve been popping to IKEA on the regular just to reenact the whole thing in their pretend living rooms.
But it seems like Sir Tom Jones might have landed himself in a bit of hot water before the show has even started.
And it’s got something to do with a previous winner.
Fans of the show will remember that Leanne Mitchell won the show in 2012 and Tom was her mentor.
However, she never really made it after the show.
It happens. Not everyone waltzes off of talent shows and makes a fortune like One Direction. Anyone know what Ben Haenow is doing at the moment?
EXACTLY.
But Tom decided to talk about why he believes his act didn’t get very far in the music industry – and his comments have pissed off a LOT of people.
Talking to The Daily Mirror at the launch for the upcoming series, Tom said: “When she first came on, I thought about her trimming down a bit.
“Leanne had gotten comfortable singing in this holiday camp and she’d put on some weight.”
An eating disorder group talking to the paper called for him to be “sacked”, as he went on to say: “Rather than take the opportunity of winning The Voice and a having chance of getting a record deal, which she did, she put on more weight. She didn’t have the drive.”
Um. Right. OK, Tom. Because we forgot you can only be successful if you’re a certain size.
But wait – just a question – isn’t the WHOLE POINT of The Voice that the judges can’t base their opinions on what people look like and instead judge them on their talent?
Yeah, that’s what we thought too.
The Voice starts tonight at 8pm on ITV.
