Attention fans of weird, moody US dramas, comparing time to flat circles and Vince Vaughn's exhausted face: the trailer for season two of True Detective has landed and it looks all kinds of awesome, although everyone in it does look like they're on the verge of having a big cry.

A knackered Vince Vaughn appears in the dialogue free trailer, along with Colin Farrell - complete with bushy policeman's 'tash - and Taylor Kitsch, who'll star as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorbike officer for the highway police.

Colin Farrell plays Ray Velcoro, a detective at odds with his corrupt police department and the mob, which operates in the City of Vinci, LA County.

Meanwhile, Vince Vaughn takes on the role of Frank Semyon, a career criminal, who attempts to go straight, but is struggling to keep things that way after his business partner is murdered.

Elsewhere the trailer shows some picturesque shots of Ventura County with the creators trying to avoid filming in well-known areas of California, such as LA.

There's also gritty nighttime scenes and a few clips of Rachel McAdams, who plays Ani Bezzerides, a local sheriff's detective, clashing with other corrupt cops.

Farrell's detective, Kitsch's highway policeman and Rachel McAdam's sheriff will all intertwine, as they investigate criminal plots that involve billions of dollars.

But it's not all A-list actors starring in the edgy series, oh no. There's due to be a massive orgy scene and the creator, Nic Pizzolatto, enlisted some professional bonkers - namely porn stars Amia Miley and Peta Jensen - who'll star along with lots of other nudey extras, to ensure all that sex stuff looks authentic.

Season 2 of the hit HBO show isn't going to be connected to the first, which saw Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey investigate a series of grizzly murders in the Deep South.

True Detective season 2 will have eight, one-hour-long episodes and it's set to premiere on the 21 June.
