The former Boomtown Rats frontman has dedicated his life to raising money to help people in Africa.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Band Aid single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, the likes of One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding have grouped together to record a very special version of the song.

Bob Geldof hopes to raise money to help combat the spread of Ebola in West Africa, which has claimed thousands of lives and left thousands of children orphaned.

The 63-year-old- who is still mourning the loss of daughter Peaches following her unexpected death earlier this year- played a short clip that emphasised the scale of the Ebola crisis.

Simon Cowell nodded in approval as the campaigner warned about the ‘harrowing’ nature of the footage.
