Emily Middlemas was axed off The X Factor during Saturday’s live Results Show after an emotional performance of Birdy’s Wings. In a tense sing-off with Matt Terry, she showcased her trademark delicate vocals, but couldn’t quite beat the show’s favourite to win.
Now she’s off the show, Emily’s not keeping quiet about her mentor, Simon Cowell. In fact, she seems to have claimed Simon’s bad song choices are the reason she ended up in the sing off.
In an interview with Metro, she said: "Every single week I’d try and get my voice heard. And I always said 'I really wanna do something upbeat. I wanna do this! I wanna dance around the stage.'
"I wanted to show the younger audience that I’m young, that this is me, that there is another side to me. But yeah, Simon just wasn’t all for it, really. He didn’t 'see' any of the things I suggested."
She’s not the only one bashing Simon’s poor judgement. Throughout the series he was often told off by viewers for his poor choices of song.
After the live semi-final, one viewer tweeted: "Would've liked to have seen @emilymiddlemas_ go on & win not only on talent but for telling Simon straight RE: song choice! #XFactor"
After her performance of Wishing on a star during Disco week, another said: "Simon could have potentially messed everything up for @emilymiddlemas_ wrong song choice, so flat. Emily is better than that #XFactor2016."
Does she have a point? Simon didn’t seem very bothered about it on The Xtra Factor. He told Matt and Rylan that he’d "gotten over it now" to which judge Sharon Osbourne replied: "that didn’t take long."
And if her Twitter is anything to go by, there’s not much love lost on her end either! She summed up the experience saying: "Thank you for getting me here. I love you guys. It’s the beginning and I am SO excited for the future." Adding a picture of her with Dermot O’Leary, cutting Simon out the shot!
