The X Factor has gone through quite an upheaval this year with Louis Walsh and Mel B being axed as judges and Dermot O’Leary quitting as host.
But, even with new panellists Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw, it seems Simon Cowell is still not convinced the show is going to be on our screens much longer – the music boss admits the next series is “make or break” for the show.
Simon wants the talent contest to return to its former glory after he was disappointed with some of the winners in recent years.
He told the Daily Star Sunday: “It does feel like make or break this year but I feel like every year is make or break, to be honest.
“There were certain years when certain people won and I was like ‘Oh Christ’.”
Simon and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are the only judges to return this year with Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora replacing Louis Walsh and Mel B.
Caroline Flack and former contestant Olly Murs are replacing Dermot O’Leary as co-hosts and even The Xtra Factor has been given an overhaul with The Saturdays singer Rochelle Wiseman and presenter Melvin Odoom fronting the show in place of Sarah Jane Crawford after she quit after the last series.
However, whatever the future holds for the show, Simon is determined to find a great winner this year.
He said: “Last year’s show made me realise there’s still a lot of talent to be discovered.
“You never forget those days when you feel a star is being born.”
