Honey G has opened up about her heartbreaking past which left her suffering post-traumatic stress disorder.
The X Factor rapper, real name Anna Georgette Giilford, who has been chosen to return to the judges’ houses stage of the show as a wildcard act, was attacked and was the victim of kidnap and sexual assault when she was younger.
The aspiring star feared she would die during the terrifying ordeal and has since been suffering post-traumatic stress, according to the Daily Mirror.
She said: “In my final year of university I was car hijacked and sexually assaulted. The effect that the experience had on me kind of ruined my confidence.
“It knocked me and basically it’s affected my whole life. I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of being attacked. I battled obviously with that.”
A man was arrested and convicted of the crime but Honey feared worse could have happened to her, saying: “I didn’t know the person, but I was quite sure the attack was a botched attempt on my life.”
Honey, who now works for a recruitment firm, was an aspiring DJ at the time but the incident put her off from appearing at nightclubs.
But she has since rebuilt her confidence enough to appear on ITV’s The X Factor and has been chosen to return to the judges’ houses after failing to win a seat at the Six Chair Challenge.
She said: “I’ve managed to pick myself up. What is really good about coming out as a rap artist is I’ve managed to write about my experiences in life.”
