Monica Michael has revealed that she pities Olly Murs after his * X Factor* gaffemeant Monica found out she was leaving the show before it was officially announced.

“In my head I knew I was already,” Monica said of her The X Factor exit.

"Backstage he was devastated, so I feel really sorry for him.”

Which is nice of her. Monica’s also revealed that she’s pleased to no longer be part of The X Factor live shows as she does not like singing cover songs.

She said: “I am relieved because I came into X Factor last year singing an original and that’s what everyone really liked about me.

“This year, again when I sang another original, it was the same reaction and I’ve got so many originals.

“I was like, ‘Can I sing an original? Can I sing an original?’ and having to do a cover was really out of my comfort zone.

“I felt so uncomfortable doing that. Obviously it’s the name of the game and it’s an amazing platform so I just had to go along with it but I am relieved,” Monica said on This Morning.

Monica appeared on the show with fellow The X Factor hopeful Max Stone, who also got the boot at the weekend. And who, to be honest, we’d already kind of forgotten about.

So, if nothing else, Olly’s big mistake will mean that Monica stays in our minds.

Until she releases one of her songs and takes the world by storm anyway.

MESSAGE TO ALL THE X FACTOR LOSERS: Think of Steve Brookstein. Now think of One Direction.
