Finding a foundation that is a) dewy b) affordable and c) long-wearing is like hitting the jackpot...but not when you've got beautyTok at your disposal.
From 3-step red carpet beauty routines, to hair products for the perfect slick back pony, it's safe to say that TikTok has upped our beauty game - and it's about to get even better.
MUA @paintedbyspencer took to the platform to rave about the £7 Catrice True Skin Hydrating Foundation, saying it leaves behind a "beautiful sheen on the skin" that "doesn't look like it's caked on, looks really lightweight and is versatile in terms of cover[age]". He also points out that the Catrice foundation "doesn't compromise the texture of your skin" and tbh, we love to hear it.
The Catrice True Skin Foundation is infused with hyaluronic acid (a hydration hero) as well as a watermelon seed oil for intensive moisture. It's nourishing, long-lasting and has a medium to high buildable coverage, with a matte 'real skin' finish.
So, is it worth the hype? Our very own Commercial Content Writer Caitlin Casey tested out the viral foundation, giving us her in-depth review below.
First impressions:
Maybe not the most mind-blowing packaging but I’m fairly impressed with the amount of foundation you get. It seems a little orangey at first glance, but we’ll see what happens when we put it on. I’ve gone for the colour Neutral Sand.
First test:
I applied the foundation by popping a bit on my hand and applying it with a damp beauty blender. My first thoughts are that a little bit goes a long way and it’s definitely a good amount of coverage, pretty much most of my face is covered and barely needs any touching up with concealer. I will say it has a bit of an orange finish which I did expect but I have more of a peachy undertone so I wasn’t ready for that.
With my other products – both cream and powder – the foundation blended well, it didn’t crease up and didn’t move which I was super impressed with. Usually, I have to set my eyes with powder but I actually found I didn’t have to with this foundation. It does give off a slightly cakey finish and I can definitely tell I have that foundation on. It’s extremely dewy which is great for me and that can be taken away with a little light powder. Great so far.
Outcome after full-day of wear:
After wearing this during the day, as well as going out in the evening for dinner and drinks the foundation did move a little bit and felt a bit greasy as the night went on. I had to pat my face with tissue occasionally but I do get oily patches from my combination skin so that is to be expected. The coverage held up well and would probably last even more if I set it with powder.
Final verdict:
I am surprised with the quality of this foundation and would 100 per cent use it again. Although it has minor disadvantages to it – it’s a bit cakey, orange and does feel heavy – it would be a great foundation to have in your collection if you’re on a lower budget. You can definitely adjust the amount you put on and it would feel a bit more lightweight if it was used sparingly.
A really good medium-to-full coverage foundation for anyone who’s looking for a cheaper dupe!
