Self-care will forever be our favourite hobby but we appreciate that recharging and putting yourself first looks different for everyone. Each week, we'll be asking the celeb lot to share their ideal self-care Sunday routines, the hard-working beauty products they recommend to their friends and which TV show they're currently binging…
This week it's all about Luke Hamnett, the TikTok superstar known for being hilariously relatable online. He has racked up over a million followers thanks to his iconic 'Matthew's Mum' skits, on-point memes and acting out the core differences between 'how dogs greet you vs cats', which alone has had over 10.7 views. After making the career switch from high-school teacher to content creator, Luke now films videos with celebs, goes to fancy premieres and has been a guest on plenty of podcasts including Nip Tuck and Chloe Vs The World. We love to see it. 👏
Luke chats exclusively to heat about starting out, his top tips for content creators and the wise advice he lives by...
Starting on TikTok
"The reason I started was because I was isolating away from my family, so I used to do videos in order to make them laugh. It was quite organic and just really stemmed from there and then it became a bigger thing and now it's become this thing that's grown legs and become its own thing and I didn't even realise it was, to be honest."
On tips for content creators
"I would say, just do it. I saw this video the other day and it was so bang on. Once you try something new, people are always going to look at it like, 'That's weird. Why are they doing that?' But you've just got to push through and persevere because, at the end of the day, consistency and perseverance are what's going to make you great.
"You've just got to keep going, because there are times when I've nearly given up and thought, 'You know what, I just can't be bothered' and then the next day I put a video out and it goes really viral.
"Then suddenly you start building a follower base and then people are really loyal to you. But my main takeaway is don't be afraid, just do it. Everyone's in the same boat at some point."
On self-care Sundays
"It depends if I've had a heavy weekend, if so it involves me being in the shower, rocking back and forth listening to Adele. My other favourite self-care day would involve getting my favourite takeaway, lighting a candle and watching Real Housewives. There is nothing which screams relaxing Sunday than middle-aged women shouting at each other."
On skincare routines
"I just use holy water and a prayer! No, so I do use a lot of Space NK products, but I do think the main things are obviously genetics and a lot of hydration. I love using Tatcha's The Rice Face Wash, £41 and then going in with the Tatcha Dewy Cream, £67 - it's the best ever."
On budget beauty faves
"You can't go wrong with a bit of Nivea. Nivea has been around since the bible. My nan used Nivea all the time and she had great skin."
On daily wellness habits
"The best thing to put you in a good mood is to put on your favourite song and pretend you're performing at Wembley in your bedroom for a good three minutes. You will feel Euphoric after that. For me, it's always Spice Girls. I'm a homosexual man, obviously, it's the Spice Girls. Imagine if I said Arctic Monkeys and Tupac?"
On brilliant podcasts
"I love the Nip Tuck girls, I think they're great and I love how honest they are. I also love Alan Carr's Life's A Beach, it's so good and I love listening to everyone's holiday stories. And Olivia Attwood's So Wrong It's Right, is so great and has so many good guests."
On words of wisdom
"I have carpe diem tattooed on me, so seize the day, even though people say it looks like I've got Celine Dion tattooed on me. Live every day like it's your last. Go out there and fuck shit up."
On what's next
"I'm starting a podcast with my mum in the next month or so, which I'm very excited about. Then I would love to go into presenting, things like that. I feel like doing the podcast will open doors for me and I love the idea of taking the podcast on the road and seeing people and being live and stuff."
Quickfire round:
What show are you currently watching? Slow Horses, with Gary Oldman, it's incredible. I would recommend getting your cousin, your goldfish and your dog to watch that show.
How do you like your cuppa? Strong like my men. Jokes, cries in weak coffee. But yeah, I actually do like it strong and with one and a half sugars as I'm trying to cut down.
Go-to loungewear brand? I'm a free spirit, I don't wear any lounge stuff really, just a full-on naked birthday suit.
Everyday perfume? If I'm feeling boujee, I would wear my Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia, £118. But for every day, I've got an Armani Stronger With You, £48 which I love.
Go-to takeaway order? It's got to be a Nando's - a half chicken, peri chips, coleslaw, halloumi cheese, always.
Favourite candle? I really shouldn't be trusted around naked flames if I don't have a lounge set, really. Safety is key.
