Self-care will forever be our favourite hobby but we appreciate that recharging and putting yourself first looks different for everyone. Each week, we'll be asking the celeb lot to share their ideal self-care Sunday routines, the hard-working beauty products they recommend to their friends and which TV show they're currently binging…
This week it's all about Meggan Grubb, the fitness influencer and YouTuber who has become a household name thanks to her glute-focused workout plans, chatty vlogs and her flattering gymwear brand, 'Bluee'. As well as being a big name in the fitness world, Meggan also shares glimpses of her wholesome life with husband Niall Kirkland and daughter Winnie with her 1.3 million Instagram followers.
Megs chats exclusively to heat about her self-care routines now she's a mum, beauty tips and the wise advice she lives by...
On self-care
"Before being a mum, self-care would be completely just 'me' time. I used to have a whole Sunday afternoon where I'd sit on the sofa by myself, watch my favourite series, have a bath... but now because I've got a baby, when she goes to bed, I want to spend time with Niall. That's something I've had to adjust to and actually one of the hardest things I found is that I have so much less time for myself because I am definitely one of those people that need to recharge my battery and re-energise by being by myself, solely alone. I do get burnt out quite a lot because of that. As she's getting older she requires a lot more stimulation and you can't just sit with them and chill anymore. They're lively and sleep less so self-care is quite rare!
"I'd say self-care Sundays now involve having a roast dinner together. We go for a nice dog walk and then we'll attempt to watch a bit of a film. Her favourite is Moana and luckily, we both love it too!
"I do think it's important as a mum to try and find a pocket of 'me' time here and there because it's important to be alone with your thoughts. It's so rare when you're a mum but if you can find 30 minutes at the end of the day before you fall asleep because you're so knackered. So that's going to be really helpful for your mind."
On skincare
"I've actually changed it up a little bit recently because when the seasons change my skin does flare up and my skin doesn't also react well to strong products. I've completely scaled it back and now only use the Aveeno Oat Gel Moisturiser, £8 and their Calm + Restore Oat Serum, £10 and it's honestly cleared up my skin so much. It's very gentle and lightweight. I always think simple is best for my skin."
On budget beauty buys
"I swear by the L'Oreal Glotion - when you look tired, it's just the best. I like to use the darker shade because it makes you look like you've been holiday. I even tell Niall to wear it when he says he says he looks so pale. He won't wear it, but it honestly is amazing!"
On make-up tips
"Blush is something that just makes you look so alive. You don't need a lot of make-up but a bit of glow on your skin with Glotion and then some blush just makes your skin look plump. At the moment, my go-to blush is the Rhode Pocket Blush in Spicy Marg, £24."
On morning routines
"I've recently changed my morning routine because I'm doing Vlogmas, where I'm vlogging every day in December. I am now getting up an hour before we need to so I can actually be productive. I think it's difficult with a baby because you're sorting them out first.
"This morning I got up, made myself a pumpkin spice latte which is my favourite. Then I made freshly squeezed orange juice with our juicer, because I feel like I need some extra vitamin C this time of year. Then I go into the home office and edit my video. Then I do skincare afterwards and then have my overnight oats which are ready to go in the fridge."
On daily wellness habits
"Definitely a workout, I love to weightlift. Around four to five times a week I'll try and do a lifting session and that's my me time. It's 45 minutes to an hour where I can focus on myself and switch off. I'm lucky because Niall works at home too, so he can have Winnie and that's just my time for me."
On fitness tips
"This Christmas, I'd say don't be too hard on yourself. It's a busy time of year, there are lots of social plans and it's cold, it's dark, so I get it. Be kind to yourself, but also movement will help you feel more energised and productive for the day.
"I always say to people, 'Think about how you're going to feel after you finish and how the endorphins will give you such a lift for the rest of the day.' I think the hardest thing is actually getting yourself to the gym or to start that workout from home. Don't think, just do and remind yourself that afterwards you're going to feel so good."
On wise advice
"I always try to remind myself of the five by five rule, 'If it's not gonna matter in five years, don't spend more than five minutes being upset by it"
