Adding Hollywood waves makes it red carpet ready

There are some hair trends that just suit certain seasons and as soon as it gets chilly enough to put the heating on we always feel the call of red hair. Maybe it's because it brightens up our new dark wardrobe, maybe it's because blonde feels too beachy, whatever the reason, this winter the A-list have given us some of the hottest reds we've seen in ages! Here's the girls that rock red and how to find the perfect shade for you.

Issie Churcher, Celeb stylist and HOB Salons Senior Colour Technician answers our red q's

WHY IS RED SUCH A TREND THIS SEASON?

We have seen so much ombre and more natural tones in the seasons past recently, that the return too red reflects the want for more drama in hair, less natural and more impact. Also, as we come into AW, introducing warmer tones into hair can help to brighten up pale complexions. Opting for a natural copper red shade is very on trend for this season, think Amy Adams or Karen Gillan.

IS IT A COLOUR CHANGE I CAN DO AT HOME?

Changing colour at home, especially blonde to red or dark to red is always risky. I would strongly recommend visiting a colour specialist if a dramatic colour change is wanted. Going to a professional will ensure the shade of red is the right one against your skin tone and the best quality hair colour is used. Likewise, an expert will ensure they take you on the right colour journey to get you to your red hue, making sure your hair health and condition takes priority. Wella’s Illumina colour service is a great permanent hair colour for a choice of copper as its gives the most natural multi tonal coverage and is perfect for blondes wanting to go copper.

HOW DO I DECIDE WHICH RED SUITS ME?

Girls with cooler, paler complexions look best with either light natural copper tones or for those looking for a more daring choice of red, opt for more violet toned reds like raspberry or deep cherry. For those with neutral or warmer undertones, team this with natural earthy tones such as rustic reds and bright paprika for a stunning look.

HOW DO I KEEP IT LOOKING GOOD?

Regular salon visits to touch up roots and refresh mid lengths and ends are a must with red heads as colour fade can be high. Investing in professional haircare to help give greater longevity to your red tone. For those worried about maintenance, although reds are prone to fade, with a more natural red the colour wears and fades lighter and softer which can give you maximum wear out of your gorgeous red hue.
