The annual Costume Institute Gala is one of fashion’s biggest events with celebs usually going all out to match their outfit to the theme of the night. This year’s theme was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. We thought this would mean dresses that turned into caravans and suits that housed kettles but this year’s attendees were surprisingly low-key in their attempts.
The hottest trend of the night was metallics, especially silver. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Poppy Delevingne, Brie Larson and Naomi Watts shimmered down the carpet in gleaming gowns made of sequins, metals and high shine embellishment.
Flowers and feathers also played a big part, though we’re not super sure how those frocks fit into the technology theme. Maybe the technology part is related to the machines that create the outifts? As in sewing machines?
Kate Hudson’s amazing shard-like gown showed off her wow figure and nailed the techy theme. She looked like a fit Tron extra.
Most bizarrely of all were the body flashers who spent the evening strutting around in barely-there gowns. Hot babes Emily Ratajkowski, Karlie Kloss and Kendall Jenner were among the few who opted to show off their Pilates honed bods in teeny gowns.
Whilst we’re not major fans of people swerving dress codes (don’t bother attending a Halloween bash if you haven’t dressed up, right?), we can’t deny how incredible the majority of the guests at this year’s Met Gala looked.
