Abbey Clancy: ‘Why doesn’t Victoria Beckham like me?’

It’s a friendship match made in WAG heaven

Abbey and Victoria

She has two successful podcasts to her name, is a proud parent to four children, and a celebrated model with countless collaborations under her belt.  But there is one tick box left unmarked for Abbey Clancy – and that is befriending ultimate WAG Victoria Beckham.

On a recent episode of The Therapy Crouch, her laugh-out-loud podcast with husband Peter Crouch, Abbey, 38, championed the esteemed fashion designer and former Spice Girl – specifically her eponymous brand. After Pete, 43, ‘humbly bragged’ about being gifted a pair of sunglasses from David Beckham’s Eyewear range, Abbey responded, ‘I’m a bit pissed off that Victoria didn’t send me anything. I love her new collection. Victoria, if you’re listening…’

When Pete – who played for England alongside David in the 2006 Baden-Baden football World Cup – teased that Abbey wanted the ‘entire Victoria Beckham collection’, Abbey replied, ‘I would love that. I’ve bought a lot of Victoria Beckham.’

While the interaction might have been tongue-in-cheek, we are in fact told that Abbey would secretly love to strike up a friendship with Vic, 50.

‘Abbey has always had a huge respect for Victoria, and that goes right back to when they knew each other through the England football team,’ our source shares.

‘She sees a lot of herself in Victoria - they both have that same determination to be a success, are very hardworking but dedicated to their families, and they both have four kids. They’ve also managed to shake the WAG tag and have success in their own right. Abbey would love for them to have a boozy lunch out, as they’re very similar and know they would have a lot of fun and bounce ideas off each other.’

When the 2006 Baden-Baden World Cup rolled around, Vic – who shares Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and 13-year-old Harper, with retired footballer David, 49 – had been on the WAG scene for almost a decade. But Britain’s Next Top Model’s Abbey was a rookie, having met Pete just months before the tournament began. While they later got married and welcomed four children - Sophia, 13, Liberty, nine, Johnny, who turns seven this month, and Jack, five – the couple did briefly split during the World Cup, when Abbey was sent home from the German town after old photos of her allegedly snorting drugs resurfaced.

But heat has learned that the brief period Abbey spent with Vic in the noughties has left a lasting impression, as she continues to look to her for inspiration. ‘Back in 2006, Abbey was very new to the WAG team but she really admired how Victoria had time for everyone despite being so famous, and how she was such a dedicated wife and mum,’ we’re told. ‘She also knew how to let her hair down and have fun, and Abbey has definitely taken inspiration from her on how to live a life in the public eye.

‘But there is a part of Abbey that worries Vic doesn’t really like her or has found her too much the times they have met. Abbey was a huge Spice Girls fan growing up and loved Vic’s fashion, hence why she has so many of her clothes and accessories. Abbey is a lot more nervous than people realise and she does overthink and worry about things.’

Our insider also adds that Abbey would be thrilled if she and Pete – who first did his iconic robot dance at David’s house party before the World Cup in 2006 - spent time with the Beckhams together, especially as the men are friends already. We’re told, ‘Pete and David have always got on and catch up whenever they can when they’re at the same events. But Abbey would absolutely love it if she became friends with Victoria and they started hanging out as couples.’ What are you waiting for, Vic?
