The One Show host Alex Jones has opened up about suffering a miscarriage in 2017 in an emotional new interview, revealing that she hosted the show just one hour after discovering she had lost her baby.

The Welsh presenter, who is currently seven months pregnant with her second child, recalled the heart-breaking moment to The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.

She said, “We learnt the baby didn't have a heartbeat. I was around 14 weeks, which is a decent amount of time.

“The baby had stopped developing at about nine weeks. That was really hard. It hit us like a ton of bricks."

She then revealed that she was back on air the same day as receiving the devastating news, despite her boss telling her to take time off.

"I said, 'What else am I going to do?' It's a horrible feeling because it is so empty. There's nothing to say. It's done."

Alex fell pregnant again six months after her miscarriage and has been open with how cautious she is being.

She was taken to hospital in February after not being able to feel her baby move. Sharing a photo of herself waiting to be seen, the TV host wrote, 'Hadn't felt much movement from the baby for a few days so lying here being monitored. If in doubt mammas ALWAYS check! So reassuring to hear the heartbeat'. [sic]

Luckily all was fine with the baby despite the scare, with Alex writing 'All was fine at the hospital. His or hers little heart beat was going like the clappers but good to check. Thanks for the messages.' [sic]

Alex is already a mum to son Teddy who she shares with husband Charlie. She revealed she was expecting baby number two on The One Show back in December.

Whilst presenting the show with her co-host Matt Baker, Alex said, "Now I have some news! No I haven't been eating all the mince pies! There is a little baby, look! I am expecting another baby."

It isn't known whether Alex and Charlie know the gender of their second child, but so far the couple continue to keep the news to themselves. Alex and Charlie's baby is due later in 2019.
