Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt might have been the ultimate Hollywood ‘It’ couple, dominating headlines together, but they always steered clear of working together. However, two decades on from their divorce, heat has learned that the amicable exes could be cementing their close friendship by sharing the big screen for the first time ever – and we couldn’t be more excited, obvs.

‘For Jennifer, getting the chance to star opposite Brad would be a great full-circle moment and quite healing – it’s just a matter of finding the right project. They both have people from their teams reading stuff, looking out for a killer script – Jennifer won’t do anything just for the sake of it and neither will Brad. Whatever it is, it has to be top quality.’

Another insider has claimed that they’re looking for a ‘romcom, a la Bridget Jones’ in the wake of the success of the recent fourth film in the franchise, in which the iconic character navigates dating in her fifties.

Jen, 56, and fellow actor Brad, 61 – who married in July 2000 and shocked the world when they announced their split in January 2005 – have only starred opposite each other once before on the small screen, when he played her high school nemesis in a 2001 episode of Friends. But Jen admitted in 2004 that the pair had no plans to collaborate on a film, saying, ‘That would be just asking for trouble. Maybe years down the line, if the right thing came along, of course, we'd love to.’

But in September 2020, nine months after causing a media frenzy with their handsy backstage reunion at the SAG Awards, Jen and Brad got tongues wagging about a their chemistry following a sultry Zoom read-through of cult teen film Fast Times at Ridgemont High to raise money for Covid charities. Afterwards, Jen revealed that there was ‘no oddness’ with her ‘buddy’ Brad, insisting they ‘had fun’.

Now, our insider reveals, ‘People have been begging Brad and Jen to team up for something ever since the table read of Fast Times. At first, they both laughed it off. But their friendship has solidified over the past five years, and they’ve now at the point where it’s actually something they would enjoy doing. They know people would go wild for it.’

Following their split Jennifer and Brad both moved on and remarried – Jen to Justin Theroux and Brad to Angelina Jolie – but those marriages both famously ended in divorce. Brad’s, in particular, was notoriously bitter and he is still believed to be estranged from the six children he shares with Angelina. He is currently in a relationship with jewellery maker Ines de Ramon, while Jennifer is single.

Our source says that both stars know a any joint project will no doubt prompt reconciliation rumours. ‘If Jen and Brad do work on something together, it’s going to stir up all sorts of talk about them getting back together, which won’t be easy for Ines to handle. But she’s not the type of person who would ever stand in Brad’s way, and for him, it’s no big deal, because he just sees Jen as a good friend.’
