Why Brooklyn Beckham’s not happy with Victoria’s ‘pushy’ plans for his wedding

She’s made it abundantly clear just how delighted she is about her eldest son Brooklyn’s engagement to girlfriend of nine months Nicola Peltz, gushing about the pair all over social media and privately making plans for their transatlantic celebrations.

But according to insiders, Victoria Beckham’s excitement is starting to become just a tad extreme, and while Nicola’s happy to be on the good side of her future mother-in-law, Brooklyn’s finding her increasingly “overbearing” and “pushy”. And a recent family holiday to Italy has only increased the tension between mum and son – not least because Vic’s been using it as an opportunity to do some wedding planning.

“Victoria and Nicola have been spending a lot of time together on holiday – chatting, working out and going on shopping trips,” says an insider close to the Beckhams, who flew to Puglia in southern Italy, with their four kids– Brooklyn, 21, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and nine-year-old Harper – and Nicola, 25, in tow. “Harper’s still too young to do a lot of things, so Vic loves having another girl around. But she’s been getting a little carried away with the wedding planning – she’s been rushing down to breakfast every morning telling Nicola and Brooklyn all about her new ideas.”

As heat has told you, Vic’s enthusiasm for Brooklyn’s big day has already caused some tension between her and husband David, who – although happy for the couple – is still concerned that Brooklyn might be a bit immature for such a massive commitment. But now that Vic’s steamrollering plans for the big day, it’s not just David who’s getting worried.

“There’s been a lot of eye rolling from Brooklyn,” says our source, noting that the Beckhams’ eldest son spent the majority of lockdown away from his parents with Nicola’s family in the US, where he had a lot more time to do things on his own terms.

“He knows how excited his mum is, but also knows that she has a tendency to take over. Of course, he wants her to be involved, especially because he knows how awesome she is at this stuff, but he also wants to have Nicola to himself without his mum interfering. He’s starting to get annoyed and has warned her about becoming a pushy mother-in-law.”

As for Nicola, our source says, “She’s been brought up to be incredibly polite, so she’s brushing it off and telling Brooklyn how sweet it is that his mum obviously loves him so much.” But, at the same time, she’s mindful that this is her wedding day, and it’s apparently “becoming a bit of a balancing act between the choices she wants to make – like choosing her wedding dress and venue – and letting Victoria impose some of her own decisions, like designing the wedding dress”.

But while Victoria may be able to handle Brooklyn’s objections, we’re told there’s one person who she really doesn’t want to annoy – the mother of the bride. “Nicola’s mother Claudia [Heffner Peltz, a socialite and former supermodel] will be heavily involved, too,” says our source. “Vic needs to avoid overstepping the mark, especially because she and her husband Nelson are planning to pay for a multimillion-dollar wedding in the US [Vic and David are planning to throw a second celebration in the UK]. Nicola won’t want there to be any tension, so she’s just trying her best to please everyone.”
