When it comes to fashion, it’s fair to say that Coleen Rooney takes more of an interest in it than her husband Wayne. And, while Coleen seems to get more glamorous by the year, showing off a never-ending wardrobe of designer threads – and with a pair of well-defined eyebrows to make any Hollywood A-lister jealous – the same can’t be said for Wayne.
In fact, the former footballer-turned-Derby County manager has been looking increasingly, ahem, scruffy in recent months, and his greying beard has had fans commenting that he looks older than his 36 years.
According to insiders, Coleen, 35, is desperate to give Wayne a youthful makeover. And with his career looking uncertain following the news that Derby are facing bankruptcy and could be relegated into a lower league, she thinks it could be just the thing to give him a new lease of life.
“They look so different to how they did even ten years ago,” says an insider close to the couple, who have been together since they were teenagers and share four sons – Kai, 11, Klay, eight, Kit, five, and three-year-old Cass.
“Coleen is very manicured and well-groomed, and she looks so sophisticated without a wrinkle in sight. But Wayne looks much older with his grizzled appearance and greying beard, and he’s currently living in black tracksuits. He seems to be stuck in a style rut and their friends have teased that he’s like Simon Cowell, always wearing the same outfit! Coleen has said she’s planning a big shopping trip for him. She’s happy to spend up to £10,000 on a new wardrobe, and she’s trying to persuade him to get some ‘Brotox’ [aka male Botox] to freshen him up.”

This, of course, wouldn’t be the first time that Wayne has taken steps to turn back the clock. In 2011, he revealed he’d had a hair transplant to restore his receding locks. But, according to our insider, Wayne is reluctant to dip his toe further in the world of cosmetic procedures – especially because his hair transplant received so much media attention.
As heat has told you, Wayne’s currently facing a lot of career uncertainty, as Derby County is in serious financial straits and is also under-performing in the Championship. We’re told that Coleen is appealing to his footballer’s ego, telling him that a spruce-up will help him with his career in the long run, and inject him with a massive surge of fresh energy.
“Wayne’s worried about being ridiculed if he has more cosmetic stuff done,” says our source. “He hated how talked-about his hair transplant was. But with everything so uncertain at Derby, Coleen’s telling him that it can’t help to look the part. She wants him to come across as a young and energetic new manager – not someone who looks too tired to care. She’s told him that plenty of guys look after their appearance, but she also knows not to push.
“With Wayne, you just have to plant the seed and walk away. And, mention how great Cristiano Ronaldo [who’s older than Wayne] looks!”
