After a testing and turbulent few years, it looks as if Wayne and Coleen Rooney are finally ready to put their problems behind them and use 2020 to make a much-needed fresh start.

And what better way to do that than with a new baby? The couple are already parents to four sons – Kai, ten, Klay, six, Kit, three, and 23-month-old Cass – and would love to add to their brood, this time with a girl.

“Coleen and Wayne have really been through the mill – at one point, they were close to divorce because of Wayne’s behaviour,” an insider tells heat.

“But they’ve worked on their marriage and, while things still aren’t perfect, they think having another baby will bring them closer together. And, after having four sons, they would love a daughter. Coleen is so girly and often feels outnumbered, so she’s hoping for a girl.

"She’s very close to her own mum and would love that relationship with a daughter of her own. She also thinks that a girl would calm Wayne down a bit and bring out his softer side.”

Things have been difficult between the couple, who got together when they were 16 and married in 2008, ever since Wayne was arrested for drink- driving while taking home party girl Laura Simpson in August 2017.

Coleen was pregnant with Cass at the time and on holiday with the three eldest boys. She was spotted several times without her ring, and it was reported that she had gone to stay with her mum while she worked out her future with Wayne.

The 33-year-old WAG put up a lengthy Facebook post about how she thought her marriage could be over.

Writing about her husband, she said, “He’s made silly and selfish mistakes, some he’s learnt from, some obviously not. However maybe that will change? It’s my decision.... do I love Wayne? Yes I do. If I didn’t then I wouldn’t be trying to make it work.

I know I would be fine on my own, with just me and my children, but I don’t want to live like that, I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family, because that’s what I want to do.”

A few months later, Cass was born, with the couple saying he’d be their last baby.

That summer, they moved to Washington after Wayne signed for US Major League Soccer club DC United – however, he was soon in trouble again when he was arrested at Washington airport for being drunk and disorderly after drinking on a flight.

He was then caught up in more controversy after he got into the car of a barmaid following a drinking session. Most recently, he was spotted getting into a hotel lift with a woman – who he later said was an autograph hunter – after having a hot tub party with her and some teammates.

The family quit America two years early and Wayne signed for Derby County as Coleen was keen for them to be back in England. They are currently having their dream £20million mansion built and are set to move in this year, and we’re told Coleen thinks once they’re settled, it’ll be the perfect time to have another baby.

“She really thought she was done having kids, but she’s been getting increasingly broody over the past few months,” our insider says.

“She loves having her boys, but she can’t help but wonder what it would be like to have a girl, and thinks she should at least try one more time for a daughter. She has a niece, and she’s been spending a lot of time with her since getting back to the UK in the summer.

"She absolutely loves spoiling her and buying her clothes. The new house is huge – there’s plenty of room for more kids and she would love to decorate a nursery for a girl.”

Coleen has previously said a “girl would complete them”, and the insider says that now things with Wayne are more or less back on track, she says a baby would bring them closer together. She also knows Wayne would love to have a daughter and thinks he would be a great dad to a little girl, as well as the boys.

“Coleen has really been through it with Wayne, but she now feels they’re in a good place and she’s started to trust him again,” we’re told. “He’s really made an effort and is helping out with the boys a lot more. She loves being pregnant and having a newborn and would love one more.

"Wayne is really good with the boys, but she would love to see him with a girl and thinks the boys would benefit from having a sister to look after. She thinks it will bring out Wayne’s sensitive side more, and he’s always going on about how cute his friends’ daughters are and how he would love him and Coleen to have one.”

The source adds, “A few months ago, their marriage was in such a bad way that she would never have even entertained the thought, but things have changed. She feels very blessed and lucky to have four healthy boys and, of course, she wouldn’t mind if she had another one.

But if they decide to go for it, she’s going to look at tips and ways of having a girl and hope it happens. She can’t wait for her and Wayne to have their very own little princess and she knows she’ll be spoiled by everyone.”
