Who is James Middleton?
A 24-year-old sports media manager, better known for being the ex-boyfriend of reigning Queen of the Jungle, Made in Chelsea star and I’m a Celeb winner Toff (Georgia Toffolo).
Any relation to Duchess Kate?
Nope, this James Middleton is just a bloke from Fulham.
What’s the lowdown with him and Toff?
WELL. STRAP IN. This one’s got so many twist and turns you might get whiplash. Lucky for you I’ve been the one getting all dizzy trying to piece it all together so you don’t have to.
SO apparently Toff started dating James in October 2016 but ended the relationship before she went on Celebs Go Dating. Apparently he messed her around a bit (more on that in a sec)
But for a brief while, around September 2017, when the show was done they were back together. And things were going swimmingly. Toff told The Sun "I am so pleased to be back with my ex James.
“I always really liked him but it was hard on us because my job means that I have to go out all the time and a lot of men don't like that.
“I often wonder if my relationships don't work out because I am the more Alpha one and the focus is on me and men don't like that.
“But James was the one who approached me and he rang me up to ask me out and we have been together ever since.”
She added: “I'm so happy and it's going really well. So well in fact that he is going to be in the new series of MIC.
“He is so brilliant that I'm sure he's going to be a massive hit."
Right. So James was lined up to make a Made in Chelsea debut with Toff.
So how'd it all go tits up again?
The couple were still hand in hand a week before Toff left for the jungle in November 2017 but broke up suddenly before she left for I'm A Celeb.
Some sources said: “Toff wanted to be single for the Jungle so she had no ties back at home.
“She’s broken up with him before so this time around wasn’t that hard.
“Toff is really throwing herself into the experience as she knows this has a potential to be a big boost for her career."
But some people (apparently) close to the couple gave The Sun the lowdown: "She split from James after discovering that he 'cheated' on her with PR girl Annabel Field, who bears a striking resemblance to her.
"James really messed her around when they were together so she went ahead and did Celebs Go Dating as a single woman.
"But it wasn’t long before they got back together again and they’re still in a relationship now even with Georgia being in the jungle."
So are Georgia and James back together then?
Well no hold up a sec, because while on the jungle, Toff said to teammate Vanessa White that they split, saying her New Year's plans were "meant to be going to South Africa with my ex-boyfriend but we broke up... I wanted to use this time to get my confidence back up.
"It was great and then it went wrong and maybe I work too much.
"My confidence was knocked so much, it happened so soon before I came in here."
Don’t know about you but my head’s spinning being batted around like this.
So she has openly said that her career and being “too alpha” was a problem in her relationships and James described himself as “quite traditional” in Survival of the Fittest promo. Feels like there's a 2 and 2 begging to be put together here.
Has James spoken about it?
James confirmed that they split before the jungle saying: "We had our ups and downs. We broke up before she went into the jungle and she wanted to focus on that and it was all fine. I still supported her when she was in there and it was all good...
"She’s a great girl and she’s got a good heart. So we are still on good terms. I knew when she won it [the relationship] was over. I wanted her to have the chance to do her own thing and that’s what I am doing now. We have both gone in our different directions."
It's a bit juicy that he knew it was over because she won. Either he can’t handle a successful woman or he knows his place in the pecking order?
So, she ditched their couples' South African holiday to go on a reality show and now he’s in a reality show in South Africa looking for love - funny how these things come full circle (or maybe more of a weird swiggle that's connected both ends)
She threw a light bit of shade by writing on her Instagram story how great this season of Celebs Go Dating was... which is on same time as Survival of the Fittest. Looks like she doesn't want to have to see his face again!
What’s he like? What are viewers reactions to James Middleton?
Well, tbh, viewers seem to think he’s a bit of a prick.
When Ryan told James he was bisexual on Tuesday, his literal response was: “Are you joking?”
Erm, are you, James?!
Moments after discussing boy code and working as a team with the lads and knowing full-well Ryan was into Georgie, he only went and snaked them ALL by slithering up to her.
He THEN seemed to try and use Ryan’s bisexuality to break them up, telling her Ryan trusted him with a “secret” and hinting he'd tell her. Ryan ended up telling her himself anyway!
On Twitter everyone’s branding him the new Jonny and asking wtf Toff saw in the snake in the first place.
But there were PLENTY of red flags in his interviews.
Before the show he admitted to The Mirror: “My mates would describe me as cheeky, loyal and sometimes a bit selfish. Loyalty will definitely be at the forefront of my mind on the show. That said, it’ll be interesting when you throw “the enemy” in the mix as I am prone to being less loyal to the lads when it comes to girls."
He also said: "My biggest fear is if I fall head over heels for a girl and I’ve made some strong bonds with the guys because I think that’ll be tough to decide what I’m going to do."
What he was most excited about was "the prospect of meeting a girl in there and getting on well.”
And when asked "Dates or Mates?" he said "Mates. That’s my intention. Reality may be different…”
So he literally said he was a snake in about TEN different ways. He’s even hinting at snaking the interviewer, reader and possibly himself with that final line. The signs were all right there, people!
