Desperate Meghan Markle’s new bid to end feud

The Beckhams aren't looking to rekindle their royal friendship...

Meghan and Harry

It’s no secret that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s well of celebrity pals has almost completely dried up. Amal and George Clooney no longer return the pair’s calls, Oprah didn’t invite them to her star-studded birthday bash, and it was slim pickings on the stars who shared her jam on their socials. As a result, Meghan is said to be desperate to get Victoria and David Beckham back on Team Sussex – and on their recent tour of Columbia, Meghan, 42, sent a clear message to Victoria, 50, by wearing one of her designs.

An insider tells heat, "Meghan wearing a silk shirt from Vic’s collection was a very conscious move to restore their friendship. However, although Vic was flattered, as it’s great to get exposure for her designs from somebody so high-profile, it has put her in quite an awkward position. She normally always likes to draw attention on her socials whenever an A-lister wears her clothes, but this time, it’s difficult because she and David are good friends with Kate and William. She doesn’t want to intentionally embarrass Meghan, but she’s determined to work with Kate in the future and doesn’t want anything to jeopardise that. Both her and David want to stay on the good side of the royals."

Victoria and David, who attended Harry, 39, and Meghan’s wedding in 2018, have steered clear of the pair ever since they left the royal family and moved to California, and are resolutely Team Waleses. Our source says, "Vic doesn’t want Kate or William to think that they are supporting the Sussexes – they have a lot of time and sympathy for the Waleses and that’s never going to change. While Victoria would hate to be enemies with anyone, Meghan and Harry upset a lot of people with their behaviour, and both she and David feel very uncomfortable with what they’ve said about the royals."

Victoria’s current stance on Meghan is a marked difference from when the Suits actress first started dating Harry in 2016. With David already friends with the prince, Victoria is said to have gone out of her way to welcome Meghan to the UK. And not only were she and David, 49, invited to the pair’s wedding, but Meghan also regularly wore Victoria Beckham designs.

However, things took a sour turn a few years ago, when Harry allegedly called David to accuse Posh of leaking stories on the Sussexes – leaving the Beckhams furious. It seems Vic isn’t planning on forgiving them anytime soon and appears to be snubbing Meghan’s repeated olive branches.

Our source tells us, "Meghan has invited the entire Beckham family to Harry’s 40th birthday party next month. She’s told her party planners that if they do attend, she wants to ensure photographers get as many snaps as possible and make them feel like the guests of honour. She also reached out to Victoria, offering to plug more of her new collection on her upcoming Netflix cooking show, as well as promoting her beauty brand, which she knows Vic is keen to expand in the US."

"Vic’s response was lukewarm, however. She thanked Meghan for her generous offer, but connected her with her PR team - very much a fobbing off. The Beckhams haven’t RSVP’d to Harry’s birthday invite yet, either, and it’s starting to become clear that every avenue Meghan tries, she’s receiving a dead end."

Also, let’s not forget David’s desperation to finally earn his long sought after knighthood.

"David has grown closer to William over the past few years and has a good relationship with Charles, too," we’re told. "He would love a knighthood, so both him and Vic know the importance of keeping in with them. Victoria does feel a bit sorry for Meghan as she can relate to all the criticism she gets, but the Beckhams have no real intention of being friends with the Sussexes again."
