After the bombshell of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent interview with Oprah, there was only one thing we were all wondering – when, and how, would the royal family respond?
And while the Queen issued a statement one day after the interview aired in the US, it was Prince William and Prince Charles who seemed to stay silent. At an official visit to a school, William bit back at reporters who questioned if the royal family was “racist”, adding that he was planning to speak to his brother.
It didn’t take long for Charles and William to get in touch with Harry, although we didn’t expect to hear about it from American telly legend Gayle King. Gayle, an anchor for This Morning on CBS – the same network that broadcast the interview – and friend to Harry, Meghan and Oprah, explained that she had called the ex-royal couple to see how they were doing.

Gayle also claimed that no one at the palace had spoken to Meghan yet, and that, “I think what is still upsetting to them is that the palace keeps saying they want to work it out privately, but yet they believe these false stories are coming out that are very disparaging against Meghan still.”

This news comes after an emotional weekend for the two princes, who both honoured their late mother Princess Diana in different ways for Mother’s Day. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s personal Instagram account shared cards written by their three children to “Granny Diana”. Prince George, seven, wrote, “I love you very much and think of you always”, while five-year-old Princess Charlotte wrote, “I am thinking of you on Mother’s Day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you.”
It was also reported that Harry had arranged for flowers to be placed on his mother’s private grave in Althorp.
