Congratulations are in order for Rihanna (whose concert last week was rudely interrupted by some random sports game) after the superstar announced her pregnancy on stage. The singer and her rumoured fiancé A$AP Rocky are expecting their second child together this year, and friends say they couldn’t be happier. Which leaves just one question hanging over them: when will they finally get married?
“Rihanna and A$AP can’t wait to get hitched,” says an insider close to the 34-year-old singer, who gave birth to their first child – a boy, whose name they’ve yet to reveal – last May.
“The trouble is, Rihanna isn’t really into the idea of walking down the aisle with a huge bump under her wedding gown. They can’t decide whether to quickly do it now, or wait until after the birth. On the one hand, it makes sense to wait, with so much else going on. Ri needs to take care of herself and have a relaxing, stress-free pregnancy. But they’re also desperate to get married. They’re considering eloping in secret, or having something low-key in LA now, followed by a big celebration bash next year.”
Fans went wild during the Super Bowl half-time show last week, as the Love On The Brain singer unzipped her red tracksuit on stage to reveal a baby bump. Rihanna had hinted about the surprise the week before, saying of the performance, “I’m thinking about bringing someone… I’m not sure, we’ll see!”
As heat’s previously reported, Rihanna and A$AP, 34, – who were friends for years before they started dating in 2020 – have always wanted a big family. And insiders say the broodiness has taken priority over a wedding. We’re told, “Ri’s already postponed getting married two or three times. The original idea was to do it in spring 2021 on a beach in Barbados, but A$AP had some legal issues. Then the first pregnancy happened just when they were preparing to tie the knot in California with a few friends and family. Now, it feels like they’re back at square one again.”
But sources say there’s no doubt in anyone’s minds that it will happen. “Those two are so crazy in love and are dead set on spending the rest of their lives together,” says a friend. “They know it’s a lovely problem to have and whatever Ri decides she wants, A$AP will go along with it. They’re just so happy to be adding to their family, and feeling so blessed and excited for the future. Becoming husband and wife will be the cherry on top – whenever it happens.”
