Victoria Beckham’s guilt over Romeo’s 18th birthday

It was certainly more low-key than Brooklyn's 21st

Romeo Beckham turned 18 last week. Anyone else feel old, or is it just us?

Victoria and David Beckham celebrated their second son’s milestone birthday at their Cotswolds home with a pared-back party – complete with rainbow layer cake – and the usual outpouring of love on social media.

But an insider close to the family tells us Victoria, 46, was upset she had to keep the party so basic and wasn’t able to throw a huge bash as they had done for Brooklyn Beckham’s 21st.

“Victoria and David had huge plans for Romeo’s 18th and wanted to throw him a massive party to celebrate with all his friends and family,” we’re told. “At the start of lockdown, they had hoped that, by the time September came round, parties would be allowed again and it would be a double celebration. But instead he had a low-key bash with just the immediate family and his girlfriend.”

But they still managed to show their love publicly with many Instagram posts. Sharing a video montage, Victoria – who is also mum to Brooklyn, 21, Cruz, 15, and nine-year-old daughter Harper – wrote Romeo a heartfelt tribute. “Happy 18th birthday. We couldn’t be prouder of the young man you have become. You are beautiful inside and out and we love you so much. The sweetest, kindest soul, our everything. So many kisses from us all.”

The family also seemed keen to emphasise the significance of Romeo hitting the big 1-8, as they couldn’t seem to stop referring to his, er, newfound manliness. Dad David, 45, also shared a video of his son, and captioned it, “Happy 18th to my little man (or not so little any more). You have grown into the most beautiful person and that as you say yourself (a man finally) we love you so much never give up on your dreams and goals. This shows from day one in my arms with the song you were born to up until our latest moment where yes, I had to finally admit my son is taller than me. Happy Birthday mate.”

Romeo’s model girlfriend Mia Regan also got in on the action, posting a series of pics and videos of them and writing, “Happy 18th my gorgeous boy man!!!!! You have the most beautiful soul and deserve everything. YOU MAKE EVERYONE SMILE AND I LAVAAA YOOU SO MUCH.”

And while Romeo basked in all the love, he might have felt wistful about the birthday bash his big brother was treated to last March. Rumoured to have cost around £100k, Brooklyn’s 21st was a lavish affair held in a giant marquee and decked out with a photography-themed ice sculpture, personalised cocktails, and a doughnut tower for the birthday boy. As well as Brooklyn’s pals, the party included family friends such as the Ramsays, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner. Stormzy also performed at the party, with Posh sharing a picture of Harper dancing with the rapper.

So while we’re told, “Romeo had a great time”, at his low-key celebration last week, our source also says, “Vic couldn’t help but feel guilty that it wasn’t what they originally had planned and how different it was to Brooklyn’s 21st. Once all this is over, they will throw him a huge party to make up for it.”
