Many of us have dreamed of living the WAG lifestyle, full of endless holidays and shopping trips. But we didn’t know the dream included actual superstars George and Amal Clooney.
Last week, A-list actor George revealed he was considering plans to buy up struggling football club Derby County – currently managed by a certain Wayne Rooney – after fellow actor and fan Jack O’Connell introduced him to the team a few years ago.
And we’re told Coleen Rooney can’t wait to befriend the megastars and show them the sights, which could include shopping on Derby’s famous Iron Gate street and, er, visits to an alpaca farm.
“Coleen is obsessed with George, so him and his wife becoming involved with Wayne’s current club would be a dream come true,” says a source close to the star, who is mum to sons Kai, 12, Klay, eight, Kit, six, and four-year-old Cass. “It’s an exciting prospect, befriending actual global A-listers. If George were to invest in Derby, he would need to have a close relationship with the manager, so Coleen’s already encouraging Wayne to reach out. She’s told him to invite George and his family to their house for a visit.”
George and Amal have four-year-old twins Ella and Alexander, who the Rooney boys could hang out with, and their new £20million mega- mansion is fit for A-list company, with its cinema, swimming pool and massive garden to run around in.
There’s also the possibility of holidays in Lake Como, where the Clooneys have a home, or swanky parties in Mexico, not to mention how much of an A-list hot spot the team owners’ box will suddenly become. All of George’s super-famous friends, like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Cindy Crawford, could come to matches when they’re over here. It would make Derby the coolest club in the world.
All the excitement stemmed from an interview Hollywood legend George gave to Derbyshire Life magazine. On the same day that takeover offers were being considered for the cash-strapped footie club, George called Derby County – better known by their nickname The Rams – “a great football club with a fantastic history” adding, “I am sure there is a great future, too. I know there have been problems in recent times, but nothing that cannot be fixed.”

The Championship team went into administration last year and is now battling relegation after a 21-point deduction for breaching FA accounting rules. Which could be where George, 60, comes in.
“My interest in soccer has certainly grown in recent years,” he said.
“A few years ago, I was asked if I would like to be involved with a group of others looking to buy Malaga Football Club in Spain. It was quite an exciting prospect, but ultimately it fell through. Perhaps owning a football club is the next best thing to playing for one… Maybe, one day.”
George and his lawyer wife Amal have an impressive property portfolio that includes the Lake Como villa, a vineyard in France, and a mansion in California. They currently live in an exclusive village in Berkshire, but the Oscar-winner admitted he loves Derbyshire, calling it “a very beautiful place”, and adding, “I have admired the whole area, nice people, too.”
And our insider tells us Coleen would be delighted to show them around if they venture north.
The 35 year old – who regularly shares snaps of her WAG lifestyle – could introduce the Clooneys to the famous Cricket store in her native Liverpool, or take Amal with her to her local salon for a curly blow-dry. Or perhaps the Rooney-Clooneys could visit Madame Tussauds on a day trip to London, where Coleen took the boys in December, and posed with – that’s right – George Clooney’s waxwork.
The insider adds, “For Coleen, this is definitely a pinch-yourself moment.”
We await the Clooney-Rooney reality show.
