Even with celebrities reportedly lined up ready to compete in the All Stars version of The X Factor, Simon Cowell has done a rapid about-turn and has decided to launch The X Factor: The Band instead.

All Stars was set to air after the celebrity version of the show ended, but the idea has apparently been shelved until further notice.

Simon has claimed that it was his plan all along to launch The Band next year, but after Little Mix – who he no longer represents – announced their own talent search show for the BBC, the music mogul seems to have gone into panic mode and brought the show forward.

“It was too much fun not to do this year,” Simon explained. “I would rather it was us doing it first.”

Rumours of previous X Factor contestants such as Leona Lewis pulling out of All Stars aside, Simon says he’s looking for a band to launch the UK’s version of “K-Pop” – which incidentally just stands for Korean Pop.

An ITV spokesperson confirmed the show will air in December which gives applicants just “a few days” to send in their recorded auditions.
