Victoria Beckham proved she was a supportive wife last week, when she shared images from David’s racy new Boss campaign with fans, which sees him stripping down to just a pair of boxer shorts.
In the advert, the former footballer, 49, lounges around an apartment before whipping off his pants and heading into the shower naked, as stunned people in surrounding buildings watch him through a window.
Posting on Instagram, Victoria, 50, wrote, ‘My boss’, alongside a love heart and wink emoji, before later gushing, ‘So proud of you’.
But while she’s seemingly lapping up the compliments her husband is receiving, a source tells heat that, in some ways, she hates him stripping off – as she worries the attention will bring up old feelings of insecurity for her.
‘Vic has made no secret of the fact she’s suffered with major hang-ups and insecurities throughout her life,’ says our insider. ‘As much as she loves it when she and David show off their buff bodies, and display their love for one another, on Instagram, she still falls victim to feeling as though she needs to be looking over her shoulder. She knows David looks hot and everyone is lusting after him – and, obviously, stripping down for a global ad campaign is different from what they usually share on social media.’
They source continues, ‘Unfortunately, it scratches at a few old wounds for Vic. Like most WAGs of her time, she has had to deal with unwanted female fan attention aimed at her other half, with lots of rumours going around. It really can play into your anxieties, and seeing David as this pin-up again has definitely made Vic feel a little insecure.’
The couple – who are parents to Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13 – have had their share of ups and downs throughout their 26-year marriage. Although David has always denied any rumours he has cheated on Victoria, claims of infidelity have plagued them in the past. In 2004, his former personal assistant Rebecca Loos alleged she had an affair with David, claiming they first slept together in the summer of 2003.
Following Rebecca’s claims, a further three women said they had also slept with him. In his hit Netflix documentary Beckham, which aired in 2023, Victoria addressed the Rebecca Loos allegations for the first time, saying, ‘It was the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life.’
And our source says that Victoria – whose own Netflix documentary will arrive on the streaming service later this year – is now feeling spurred on by David’s sexy campaign, and could follow in his footsteps with some racy content of her own.
‘All this attention on David has brought out Vic’s competitive streak. She’s been training harder than ever before in the gym, and is looking incredible,’ we’re told.
‘She doesn’t want to look desperate or like she’s trying to compete directly with David. But she has been thinking about getting a bit of cheeky revenge, maybe posing in some designer swimwear and doing her own collaboration with a big brand. Vic is happy that David is getting all this attention in terms of how good it is for Brand Beckham, but she wants to show him that she can do it, too.’
The insider adds, ‘She’s hoping that, once she gets this out of her system, she will feel a lot better about seeing David in his undies on giant billboards everywhere. She wants them to be competing at the same level and doesn’t want to feel like she is being left behind. Her friends have all told her she looks incredible, and that she’s crazy to be insecure. David adores her and thinks she’s super-sexy.’
