Finalising a guest list for any big occasion can leave you wanting to tear your hair out, so imagine the pressure on Victoria Beckham, who is now just weeks away from her 50th birthday.
After heat previously told you that VB was having a freakout about her milestone big day, we’re now told it’s the fine-tuning of the attendee list to the planned bash that is posing a dilemma for the birthday girl.
A source says one of the main issues involves former bandmate Geri Horner, whose marriage to Formula 1 boss Christian Horner has been under scrutiny after he was investigated for – and subsequently cleared of – inappropriate and controlling behaviour towards a female colleague. Sexually suggestive messages allegedly sent between Christian and a staffer were then leaked, creating even more headlines, with Geri putting on a public show of support.
Now we’re told, “With Vic’s big birthday coming up, she’s in a real panic about the guest list. There’s a huge dilemma with Geri and Christian. Vic knows she should invite them, but she doesn’t want anything to overshadow her special day. She’ll invite the other Spice Girls, so it would look weird if Geri weren’t there. But she doesn’t want it to be hijacked as a big comeback for them, or – worse still – have them fall out and cause a scene.”
Mel B – who formed the Spice Girls with Vic, Geri, Mel C and Emma Bunton – recently revealed that the famous girlband have been rallying around Geri amid the scandal. Saying she felt “sad” for her former bandmate, she added, “We would literally take a bullet for each other. She knows that she has the four of us with her.”
But the Geri drama isn’t the only dilemma that fashion designer Victoria is facing. As heat recently reported, Posh was devastated when son Romeo, 21, split from his long-term girlfriend Mia Regan, who was very much part of Brand Beckham, previously collaborating with VB on a fashion collection.
We’re told, “Mia obviously had an invite, but now she and Romeo have split up, Vic doesn’t know what to do. She still loves Mia and wants her there, but knows it will be tough for Romeo and she has to put him first. But she’s also secretly hoping that if Mia did go, it could be a chance for her and Romeo to reconcile, which she would love.”
And while Vic – who is also mum to Brooklyn, 25, Cruz, 19, and 12-year-old Harper with husband David – has built bridges with her eldest’s wife Nicola following the widely-rumoured feud, we’re told hobnobbing with the in-laws is also something she’s weighing up.
Our source says, “She feels she should invite Nicola’s parents, but wants to be able to relax and enjoy herself, which she might not be able to with the Peltzes around. Things are a lot better between them, but they’re not particularly close – although they did host Brooklyn’s wedding, and the Beckhams would like to return the hospitality.”
The family are partial to a blowout shindig, after forking out a reported £100k for Brooklyn’s 21st four years ago. And our source reveals that whoever winds up on Posh’s party list will be in for an unforgettable evening.
“It’ll be the party to end all parties, with bands playing, free-flowing Champagne and private chefs doing the food,” we’re told.
“Vic used to dread turning 50, but now she’s really embracing it. She wants a big night to celebrate herself.”
