Why Victoria Beckham feels under attack again

It wasn’t quite the comeback she had imagined

After months of uncertainty surrounding her fashion label, last week was meant to be Victoria Beckham’s triumphant return as she showcased her latest clothing collection.

Although it was different from her previous shows due to COVID restrictions, Posh was joined by husband David and their three youngest children – Romeo, 18, Cruz, 15, and nine-year-old Harper – at her London Fashion Week presentation, and the family put on a united front as they posed for photos to celebrate her hard work. However, she yet again found herself under fire as she was criticised for the family’s OTT behaviour, as well as showing risqué images on Instagram, while eldest son Brooklyn was accused of hypocrisy over his latest project.

“Vic feels that she and the family can’t do anything right at the moment and that everyone is out to get them,” an insider tells heat. “She worked so hard on that show and put in a lot of long hours, but she feels all everyone does is focus on the negatives. Having to present her collection in those circumstances was difficult, and she wanted her family there to support her. She’s really upset by all the criticism she has attracted over the past week or so – it’s been hellish.”

Normally, Victoria, 46, would put on a huge show, with an A-list guest list and big celebrations afterwards, but this time – for obvious reasons – only her family were allowed in, and Vic posted a snap of them, captioning it, “My favourite (and only) guests this season!”

However, the picture received a lot of criticism for being “smug” and “unnecessary”, especially as it came just before stricter restrictions were introduced. One commentor said, “Trust the Beckhams to show off when the country is going into crisis again and Posh has to make it all about her and her ridiculously expensive clothes.” Another wrote, “Why are the kids not in school? What other children have to go to work with mummy to try and make her credible again?”

In the run-up to the show, Posh was branded “tasteless” by fans after she uploaded a video on Instagram of a model’s breasts, breaking the site’s strict nudity rules. Many urged for the “shocking and classless” shot to be taken down – however, it is still up. And eldest son Brooklyn – who missed the presentation because he flew to New York City with fiancé Nicola Peltz – reposted the shot and said how proud he was of his mum.

The budding photographer, 21, also found himself under fire when it was announced he was working on a new project about climate change and what we can do to stop it. Having taken at least eight flights this year, a lot of his followers weren’t impressed and called him a hypocrite. “Perhaps lead by example first and then I can take you credibly,” one said, while another raged, “This family fly all over the world – mainly on private jets – and he has the audacity to lecture us.”

And it’s reactions like this that have really upset Victoria, who caused huge controversy earlier this year when she furloughed some of her staff despite being worth £336million – a decision that she later reversed.

“Victoria feels they are under attack for no reason at the moment,” our insider says. “They’re trying their best to help others and get on with their daily lives, and now her children are being criticised. She sometimes wonders if it’s all worth it. This was meant to be a huge week for her, instead it’s been a nightmare.”
