Victoria Beckham made a very public declaration of love to David last week when she gushed over her husband of 25 years in an interview with Vogue Australia. But many weren’t buying the fashion designer’s comments, with some suggesting she is being fake in response to the barrage of negativity that has surrounded the couple recently.
The former Spice Girl tried to drown out discussion about their marriage with the interview, claiming, “I love spending time with my husband. Let me tell you, David Beckham is funny. I have a husband I very much am still in love with, possibly more than when we first met.”
Victoria was being interviewed for Vogue by the couple’s friend Nicole Kidman, and Vic revealed to her, “I said to David – and the kids – that after 25 years, I still love their dad so much and I support him and continue to want him to be the best version of himself, and he does that for me.”
But readers wasted no time in heading online to share their thoughts on the mum of four’s latest interview, branding it a cover-up for problems in their marriage – leaving mortified Victoria leaning on her husband for support. A source tells heat, “Vic was really hurt when she saw the backlash, telling friends how she felt beaten down by the constant negativity over their relationship and how, no matter what she says, it backfires.
“She thought that by telling the world how in love her and David are, it would finally put a stop to the constant rumour mill, and prove all their haters wrong after years of having their relationship picked apart. It really stung when her declaration of love was twisted as some sort of elaborate cover-up for the cracks in their marriage, with accusations of her simply trying to protect their brand.”
One reader wrote online, “The more one gushes publicly about their love, the more cracks there are in the foundation. Relax guys, you can keep some of that stuff private, too.” A second added, “That’s what you have to do if your marriage is your brand and for sale to the highest bidder.” Another claimed Victoria was just faking her perfect home life, saying, “She doesn’t have an authentic bone in her body.”
Some believe the interview was a ploy to distract from celebrity biographer Tom Bower’s bombshell book The House Of Beckham, which was published in June. The book alleges David has cheated on Vic with five women – all of which he denied – that she punched him in the face after seeing reports of him kissing another woman while she was pregnant with eldest son Brooklyn, and that there was a time in 2016 when they “lived separate lives” and “barely spoke”, likening their marriage to a “distant business relationship”.
And our source adds that even David admitted he could understand why his wife’s comments may have turned off some people. “Victoria had been so excited for the issue to come out, but that was quickly dampened when she was inundated with criticism and personal shots,” we’re told. “David tried to reassure her that it’s just jealousy, insisting the haters have proved they will twist everything she says – but he did admit that he sees why it may have rubbed people up the wrong way. He told Vic that some may have seen it as smug – especially those going through marriage troubles – but told her to let it go over her head and remember that as long as they’re in the strongest place ever, nothing else matters.
“She tried holding onto David’s words, and if anyone knows how to rise above hurtful accusations, it’s Vic. But she’s going to be more careful in future regarding what she says about her marriage.
“She just wants to focus on her and David still being madly in love after 25 years.”
