She’s spoken before about her and husband David Beckham being like passing ships in the night, revealing last year, “When I’m at home, he’s away, so one of us is always looking after the kids.” But, unsurprisingly, Victoria Beckham and her brood have experienced a change of pace since the country went into lockdown last week.
Since then, the family have been holed up in their Cotswolds mansion, swapping fashion shows and red carpets for home-baking and boardgames. And while, like everybody else, they’re racked with fear and uncertainty about what’s to come, there’s no denying that they’ve found some comfort in slowing down their jam-packed lives and spending quality time together. According to insiders, Victoria’s determined to use the unprecedented opportunity to focus, full-time, on her family.
“She’s really trying to see the positive side of things,” says an insider close to the fashion designer, who’s been staying put in the Cotswolds with David and their three younger children, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper, eight, while their eldest son, Brooklyn, 21, is in the US with his actress girlfriend Nicola Peltz.

“At first, she was stressed out trying to work and worrying about everything out of her control, but David calmed her down and said the best thing for them was find peace in the situation. Both she and David have put aside their own work to dive into home-schooling – they’ve both become such a team again, and she hasn’t had so much of his undivided time and attention for years. Of course, the headlines have them all worried, but they want to set a tone of normality for the kids, so they’re focusing on remaining positive. And they know how incredibly lucky they are to have a home in the Cotswolds with so much space and grounds."
We expect the swimming pool, sauna and tennis courts help to soften the self-isolation blow too.

How celebs are spending self-isolation: some weird and wonderful inspo
Last week, the couple, who have both been paying tribute to the NHS across social media, shared glimpses of what self-quarantine á la Beckhams looks like. Taking to Instagram stories, Victoria revealed that she and David were making a lemon drizzle cake together (he whisked while she instructed). The couple don't usually strike us as the domestic types, but they seemed to be enjoying their new roles as they playfully mocked each other – with Victoria lamenting the fact that she’d be loading the dishwasher “for the 25th time today”. According to our insider, with no household staff around, the family have embraced a more “regular” homebody routine, and have found it’s brought them closer than ever.
“Since they have no help, they’re giving the children chores to do,” we’re told. “Vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms, making their beds. They’re also doing family meals: David’s the chef and the kids all have jobs to do. Then, after dinner, they play games like cards, charades and Monopoly, and watch TV. It’s nice for Victoria that she doesn’t have to schedule phone calls with David: now, she can just go and find him and give him a cuddle.”
Here’s hoping that, once they’re back to their hectic lives, they’ll remember some of the lessons they’ve learnt during this trying time – most importantly, the recipe to that lemon drizzle cake.
