They say absence makes the heart grow fonder…but someone had better tell Victoria Beckham. Over the past few weeks, the fashion designer and husband David Beckham have been almost inseparable, with Vic joining David on a number of glitzy, showbiz outings – including, most recently, the Dior Menswear show in Paris.
But after packing in a bounty of family activities over the winter holidays, insiders say that David’s craving space – and he’s starting to miss the good old days when Posh would leave him to hit the party circuit solo.
Sadly for Posh, we’re told that the more time they spend together, the more David wants some time apart.
“They’re all smiles while they’re out and about, but behind the scenes, it’s become a little tense,” says an insider close to the couple, who celebrated their 20th anniversary last July.
“David thinks that they need time apart to keep the magic alive, but Vic is insisting that they sync up their diaries and go out together all the time. It’s caused a lot of concern that he’ll end up feeling ‘suffocated’ and she’ll be left upset.
"He’s already keen to get away to Miami and concentrate on his football club, and he’s also planning a lads-only holiday. He’s suggested that they take a break from attending events together, but that hasn’t gone down well at all.”

At the event, they both put on a united front, with Victoria cheekily posting a video of David tying her shoelaces as her trousers were too tight. But in private, we’re told that David would have preferred to attend alone – as he did last December, when he went solo to the Dior show in Miami, and partied it up with Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid and Kate Moss.
As heat has told you, Posh has been feeling increasingly insecure about David’s popularity in showbiz circles, but her resolve to put on brave face and keep him close is only building a bigger wedge between them.

“Vic much prefers staying at home to partying, but she refuses to stay in when David is so hell-bent on going out and enjoying himself,” says our source.
“She wants them to be on the same page, but she can’t bear the fact that they may still want different things in life.”
Days after they made their Paris entrée, the couple hit the headlines again after teasing each other on Instagram – with Posh posting a picture of David’s clothes neatly folded out for the following morning, after he secretly snapped her while she was trying to get the perfect selfie on her phone.

Sophie Kasaei posts wedding snap after 'heartbreaking' split from Ex on the Beach's Ash Taylor
While their jokey snaps gave a playful look at their private home life, insiders say they pointed to some extra tension behind the scenes.
“From the outside, their teasing looks cute, but there’s more going on than meets the eye,” we’re told. “They’ve started to make sly digs at each other and wind each other up. Everyone around them can see that they’re spending too much time together and need a break, but Vic is insisting that they stick together.”
Poor old Posh: last we checked, it was important for couples to spend quality time together. Sadly for her, relationship expert David Beckham knows far, far better.
