She was the victim of some harsh online abuse during her time on Love Island, before finding her Prince charming in Wes Nelson, but since leaving the villa, Megan Barton-Hanson has been a popular figure with fans of the show, with many calling her romance with Wes 'goals'.
HOWEVER, the model has came under fire for one of her recent Instagram uploads, with many fans accusing her of 'cultural appropriation'. The 24-year-old uploaded a snap of herself with rapper Post Malone at Reading and Leeds Festival at the weekend, writing, 'So here’s a picture of me fan girling so hard 🤓 If you know me well you know the love I have for @postmalone. Who would have thought a couple months ago, I would have met the love of my life @wes.nelson on a TV show. ❤️Then get to experience so many mad things together! Me and Wes hanging with post at @officialrandl 🤯 The f**k?!' [sic]
As Megan ditched her usual blonde flowing locks for some long cornrows, fans were quick to comment on the snap, with many accusing her of 'cultural appropriation'.
One user wrote, 'Yes this is cultural appropriation. It's not that serious of an issue but let's not refrain from calling it what it is'. [sic]
Another wrote, 'Braids come from African culture and were done by the slaves when they wanted to escape the plantations and weren't allowed to communicate so used the patterns as maps to plan their escape. You think it's okay for white people to then rock braids given that history?' [sic]
Despite a number of comments agreeing with the accusation, many of Megan's fans were quick to defend the Love Island star, with comments getting VERY heated on the photo.

Earlier this month Megan thanked her fans for supporting the couple on their journey, writing, 'Had such a lovely day yesterday with my boy 🖤 Meeting so many amazing people that have supported Wes and I throughout our journey both in and out of the Villa! My heart is so full of love right now! All you girls that told me how much you can relate to lacking in confidence and being insecure. Your positive words mean so much.
