This year’s Married At First Sight UK couples were, to put it lightly, rather mismatched. So much so that, frankly, we have started to wonder what was running through the experts’ heads when they decided to put them together.
However, amongst all the chaos and arguments, there was one couple that we thought had the potential to make it through the experiment and last in the outside world and that’s Nathan Campbell and Lacey Martin.
So imagine our devastation earlier this month when it came to light that Nathan and Lacey had split despite deciding to stay together in their final vows – and that’s not all, as they’ve also reportedly fallen out and blocked each other social media.
The pair have remained fairly silent on their breakup so far, but now Nathan has spoken out on how things with Lacey ended and admitted he’s ‘heartbroken’.
Revealing they split because they ‘both wanted different things’, Nathan told Yahoo UK, ‘I went on the show to find love, and sometimes things don’t work out, but everything happens for a reason, and I’m so grateful for the time we shared together.’
And despite the rumoured bad blood between them, the manufacturing engineer turned reality star added, ‘I have a lot of respect and care for Lacey.’
He continued, ‘Whilst I was hugely disappointed by the breakup, and heartbroken, I respected her decision to part ways and I have nothing but love and good wishes for her.
‘I wouldn’t have changed anything on the show, and despite what happened behind the scenes, I would still have chosen Lacey to be my bride, and I have nothing but respect and love for her.’
Who’s cutting onions in here? We’re SOBBING.
Nathan and Lacey made through the experiment with relatively little drama, although that awkward dinner they shared with Lacey’s mum was a little hiccup.
Viewers were left confused when Lacey didn’t appear to visit Nathan’s house during home stay week, however it turns out that she actually did pay a visit and it just wasn’t shown.
‘Yes we did go Nathan's for home stay, we didn't see any of his family due to Nathan not wanting them on camera,’ Lacey explained on Instagram a couple of weeks ago.
‘'We did some really fun activities and even got a matching tattoo together which wasn't shown. A lot was cut down but we did have an amazing home stay and brought us so much closer,' she told her Instagram followers.
