Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor, who has played Sally Metcalfe on the ITV soap for the past 35 years, has revealed her shock at being made an MBE in the Queen’s honours list.
The veteran soap star is among the famous faces on the New Year Honours, which also includes an MBE for singer Craig David and a knighthood for racing driver Lewis Hamilton.
Although she first found out about the exciting news a month ago, the 57-year-old has admitted she’s “still in shock”.
Sally said, “I am humbled, grateful and very proud to have received this honour. I am still in shock.
"I didn't believe it was real when I first found out earlier this month that I was to be given an MBE. Keeping it a secret has been so difficult."

She added, "During the 60th anniversary of Coronation Street I was reminded daily of my time on the show - the young girl in those scenes 35 years ago could only have dreamed of the incredible things that were going to happen in the coming years.
“I am so blessed to have met and worked with some wonderful people, not only on Coronation Street but also through the incredible charity Prevent Breast Cancer, their founder, Lester Barr, and their amazing fundraising team. This honour is as much for them as it is for me.”
Sally also thanked her husband Tim and their children Phoebe, Sam and Hattie for “their constant love and support”.

In her three decades on the cobbles, Sally’s character has been involved in huge storylines including her marriages to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), her breast cancer diagnosis, wrongful imprisonment for fraud and domestic abuse at the hands of ex Greg Kelly (Stephen Billington).
The Corrie legend’s co-stars have taken to social media to congratulate her on the honour, including Anthony Cotton (aka Sean Tully) who wrote, “Congratulations to @SallyDynevor MBE. She is the beating heart of our cast and we adore her. For me personally, Sal means the world. I love our little dressing room chats, that sometimes aren’t that little. And I don’t think we’ve ever laughed as much as that one time in Underworld.”
Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor, added, “I’ll definitely curtsy! So proud of you @sallydynevor, richly deserved x.”
