Party season is in full swing and December is whizzing by in a blur of bottomless prosecco and mince pies.
For some bizarre reason we actually have quite a full social calendar in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and while this makes a nice change from spending the majority of our evenings buried under 246242542 blankets and surrounded by various takeaway boxes, the morning after guilt and foggy post-work party head is proving to be a bit of struggle.
Luckily we caught up with presenter, DJ and all round mega babe Maya Jama at the live recording of the When Life Gives You Melons podcast to seek help with some of our party season woes. Mainly 'cause she seems like a laugh but also looks as though she's totally got her shit together. Which is pretty much the aesthetic we want right now.
We came up with some Christmas party-related scenarios (which may, or may not be true) and Maya gave us her best advice.
Help! I accidentally kissed one of my colleagues at the Christmas party, how do I make sure things aren't awkward when we're both in the office?
I would say, just mention it straight away. Get it out in the open asap.
Say something like, ‘OMG, That’s so awkward we kissed!’ and then just laugh it off. ‘Cause if you leave it for too long, and you’re both thinking the same thing and can get really awkward.
Eugh, I'm horrendously hungover at work, what can I do to make sure my boss doesn't find out? Is there a cure?
Personally, I would just have a Redbull (other any drinks are available, obvi) which just turns me into Speedy Gonzales. Or coffee, just try and have as much of anything that’s going to give you the energy to get through.
And then one of those orange fizzy things – a Berocca! I’m usually quite good on a hangover, but yeah, I’d say coffee, Redbull or Berocca.
I really don't like the person i've got for secret santa, what's a good gift to get? I don't want to be overly nice, but I also don't want to let on how much I dislike them...
I'd go for tomething under £10 that’s quite cute but nothing special.
Maybe like a notepad, or some cute stationary. Something that’s like, ‘Oh, I’m so busy, but I’m not being a prick.’
I'm so busy at work and I have absolutely no time to change before heading off to Christmas drinks? What can I wear that will take me from office to 'out out'?
You can always wear black jeans. They’re safe.
And then a cute little top, but paired with a blazer. So it’s work appropriate, but when you take your blazer off you’ve got your nice little top underneath.
Finally, I've decided to make a New Year's resolution this year? What can I do to make sure I stick to it?
I never make New Year's resolutions, because I never stick to them. I say I'll do one and then I'm like, 'that's never gonna happen,' but if I was to try and stick to it I would write it on a post-it not and put it on the mirror.
'Cause you're going to be looking in the mirror everyday, when you're brushing your teeth or whatever, so it would remind you about your resolution.
Basically, just write it on something or somewhere you're going to see everyday.
