Inside Anastasia Kingsnorth’s secret reality TV appearance 👀

Anastasia Kingsnorth is best known as the superstar YouTuber and content creator with over 1.3million subscribers (and a whopping 3.2million followers across all social media platforms) who has branched out into her own clothing line with In The Style and podcast Friends With Benefits, but it turns out she’s also dabbled in reality TV too.

Having first started on YouTube at just 13 years old, Anastasia was 16 when she was approached to take part in Channel 5’s Not So Sweet Sixteen, a reality series following teenagers in the build-up to their birthday party or prom.

However, the social media star’s story ended up being cut from the final edit of the show which instead focused on her friend Joel. Ana first opened up about the incident in a TikTok video posted in September 2020 when she wrote, “You think you can hurt me? Channel 4 wanted me to film my prom for a documentary because I was a YouTuber during high school, when it was announced in assembly the entire year group hated me saying I had made the entire prom about me.”

She added, “I fell out with my entire friendship group over transport and spent half of prom outside by myself filming walking shots with the camera crew for them to cut me from the final show so all of it was pointless.”

While Anastasia’s story was cut from the show, you might be able to see her in the background of Joel’s party if you look very closely.

She opened up about the “prom from hell” in a YouTube video alongside Joel, the star of the show, on her channel last year. Ana said, “I got an email saying, ‘we’re making this programme following 16 year olds and find you interesting because you’re a YouTuber’ I think I had 100,000 subscribers at the time.”

Anastasia described how the show’s producers came to her school to give an assembly about how their prom would be filmed, which is where they met Joel and asked him to be involved in the programme.

Although producers filmed footage of Anastasia, as well as interviews with her friends and family, none of the clips were used in the show. Ana revealed that this meant she has no videos of her prom as she was told Channel 5 would send her their footage, which they didn’t. She explained, “I was going to film prom, do prom get ready with me, going to get my dress, but they said ‘It’s fine as we’re filming it all for you, so you don’t need to’. So I literally have nothing of prom… They said we could have all the raw footage.”

“They always wanted the nitty gritty parts. There was proper invasive questions. They wanted to know all the friendship drama, who was dating who, who was going to get with who,” she added.

“They just wanted drama from the whole thing… they were trying to get to the story.”

Speaking exclusively to heat for The Influencer Series, Anastasia recently revealed how she grew her following after starting YouTube at such a young age.

She told us, “I've been doing it for such a long time, I didn't have that one video that blew me up overnight and that was it I had loads of subscribers.

"It was very steady until August 2018 when I started doing a lot of 24 hour challenges and at the time they were the trending video on YouTube, everyone was doing them and mine every single week would just hit the algorithm.

"The first one that blew up was 24 hours in my car. And at the time it got 1.5 or 1.6 million within a couple of days. It was crazy. I didn't think it was gonna get that many views at all. Because I kept hitting the YouTube trending page, I was getting a whole new audience of people who had never seen me.”
