Rumours swirled last month that the Rooneys were in talks to get their very own reality show – and now that Wayne has been dropped by Plymouth Argyle, he’s got no excuse not to be Coleen’s leading man.
After being let go following a disastrous spell managing the football club, Wayne, 39 – who had been living in Devon since taking on the job last summer – moved back into his £20million Cheshire home with wife Coleen, 38, and their four sons Kai, 15, Klay, 11, Kit, eight, and Cass, seven. In another career blow for Wayne, it’s been reported his rumoured TV documentary has also been axed, which intended to celebrate his transition from star player to manager. Work on the documentary began last year, but considering his recent dismissal, there’s uncertainty whether it will ever see the light of day. Although it’s no doubt been a tough time for Wayne, it does leave him available for a show centred on his and Coleen’s home life.
A source tells heat, ‘There is a really lucrative offer for a fly-on-the wall show, which Coleen is keen to do. And now that Wayne isn’t managing and will be at home, producers will be even more interested to start filming an At Home With The Rooneys-style show. Wayne is up for it and producers think it will be TV gold, especially so soon after Coleen’s time in the jungle.’
Coleen – who previously starred in the 2023 Disney+ documentary, Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, which followed her court case with Rebekah Vardy – has been in high demand after being crowned runner-up in 2024’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, beaten narrowly by McFly’s Danny Jones. The exposure did wonders for the WAG – who last week launched her own health and wellness range with brand Applied Nutrition – and made many viewers eager to see her back on our screens.
If the couple were to go ahead with a family show, there’d certainly be plenty of material. The house – which took four years to build from scratch to meet the Rooney family’s every need – spans 40 acres and boasts a games room, a home cinema, an indoor swimming pool, an underground spa, a wine cellar and a stable area with space for over a dozen horses.
The staggering property also features a basement gym for fitness fanatic Coleen as well as four bars, perfect for hosting parties with their famous pals – a far cry from the Liverpool council estate where the couple grew up before Wayne’s football career took off in his teens. Opening up about the property with her campmates, Coleen said, ‘We have a few bars. We have a common bar… and we use that for parties, and it goes out onto the garden. And off the dining room we’ve got a posh bar,’ adding that they’ve even got ‘a football pitch outside, and an underground tunnel’.
As well as having more free time to let the cameras into his life, our source says that Wayne’s quieter schedule will also allow him to take the reins at home. We’re told, ‘Now that Wayne isn't working, he's promising to step up and be around more for the children. For years, Coleen has sacrificed a career so that she could raise the boys while Wayne played and managed, but now it's her time to shine. Coleen is planning to make the most of it and embrace all the opportunities coming her way.’
And the couple – who tied the knot in 2008 – are hoping to spend some well-deserved quality time together just the two of them. The insider adds, ‘Coleen is hoping that she and Wayne can get away together at some point soon on holiday. They’ve actually not gone away without the kids for ages and it could be what they both need.’
